Hi guys,
 
I'm looking to upgrade my Sennheiser HD555's which have had the mod carried out, ever since getting them a couple of years ago I've been slightly underwhelmed by them as they seem to be too laid back and just not "alive" enough. 
 
I listen to mainly metal (Death, Thrash and Doom) and want some phones that can carry the depth whilst still recreating lively mids, and being a drummer, I love to hear the cymbals.
 
Main source is CD into a Topping TP30 headphone amp although I do use Spotify Premium as well a fair bit.
 
Any suggestions?

Hmmm, well the HD 580/600's are a bit brighter and more dynamic - you might be able to get a used pair of those. Otherwise look to the crazy bright brands like Beyerdynamic if you want something very different (and totally inaccurate).

I think dynamic may be the key word here, I was even thinking about stretching as far as HD650's if they suited my tastes more.
