After some sage advice I have decided I am going to go for a Woo Audio 6. I will hold out for a second hand unit for a few more weeks (hint hint!). In the meantime I have been looking at different tubes. There a a couple of old threads on this including a very good one on the rectifier tubes but not so much discussing the power tubes. So I thought maybe it was time for a new one.
I am keen to make the amp as 'tubey' as possible so am interested in recommendations on that front.
Given that most of the discussions I have seen centre on the rectifier tube, is there much to be gained in rolling the power tubes?
I am also interested in what people have to say about buying tubes on eBay. When I search for say GZ34 there will be a few brands I have read about here and bunch that I haven't heard of. What do you need to look for when buying on eBay? just the brand? Is it possible to pick up cheapies that turn out to be good?
