I got my Head2 SE from Casques-headphones, had a very good experience with them.
I don't know if Trafomatic sells directly but a word of advice, if it comes directly from them, it'll probably pass through Customs since it's a Serbian company (not EU).

you're looking at the same amps I do...
check out Icon HPA 205D as well if you don't need lot's of power.
both (second add is the SE version!) are listed for some months now! I'm sure you will be able to save a few hundreds off asking price if reasonable.

About the Icon, I am not looking for something to drive the Susvara or 1266 but still something with enough juice to drive the planars like D8000 Pro. Do you think it is up to it?

Yeah hard if one can't just buy and sell stuff...
I have a similar issue. Will I ever get a hugley demanding set of HPs? Both hybrids are more powerful, cheaper and easier to maintain since they need only one pair of tubes. BUT the guy who started that Icon thread had a Head 2 and many many other pieces before. All solid HPAs though...

I've seen on Classifieds that Head 2 was sold several times at around 1.4k a couple of years ago.
1.8k, too. I didn't see new listings. These 2.5k don't seem like a deal to jump for, considering that the new unit is 3.2k.
ddtomas, you really made me look more closely at Head 2 (after you posted on the Final thread that you bought one),
which I was skipping because I am a fan of Auris (kind of).
But now, I have my eyes open for good deals. The only thing that concerns me is whether it's too similar to Auris HA-2 SF.
It seems both amps don't have a typical tube sound.
I wouldn't want to have two similar-sounding amps at this price point.

Both are gone and there were described as practically new... anyways. New or used?
I'm looking for a tube amp as well but don't have that similarity problem because I want to supplement a SS amp.
Shame that Auris' amps don't come in wood finish anymore...
Maybe since the Head 2 (SE) is a hybrid it could be different then HA-2.
I only remember Sandu did an in depht review of it... "kicks like a mule" I remember.
Paltauf maybe similar...
And 3rd one I'm looking at is from Icon... very flexible in terms of tube rolling.

Why is it hybrid? As far as I understand, both input and output stages are tubed (6H30P and ECC88). And the soundnews.net review explicitly states that it is not hybrid amp.

best way to understand the value of the amp, is to show another manufacturer the passive components, in this case output transformers and the choke..power.
Then kindly ask them what a amplifier with this kind of quality transformers , what a similar amp from them would cost..
my guess 5-6K
