I was originally thinking of getting the 0202 for use on my laptop but I'm not sure if I should get the Bithead instead (since it has the extra capability of running as a portable amp). But which one sounds better? Im looking to get a pair of HD555s or 595s and this is probably what it'll drive.
Whats making me hesitant about the Bithead right now is:
1) A friend told me it works both as an external sound card and portable amp well, but does neither great
2) The Bithead is made by Headroom right? Software support worries me especially with all the problems Ive had with Vista
3) Do you really need to run it off batteries when plugged into USB for it to sound right? I have a lot of rechargeable AAAs but changing them and keeping track of battery levels is a hassle
Whats concerning me about both:
4) Do these things ever drain enough current off USB to fry it? Repairing a USB port on a laptop would be a huge b*tch
And Im assuming both wont drive more expensive headphones very well, right? (the K701 is a headphone I really want to own in the future)
