Because we all like Mike and his great albums and works, I thought a little classification and voting would be both appropriate and fun.

Many people feel that a song is long if it's over six minutes or so. Mike has done many long tracks that could be classified as long so I divide those to several smaller groups:
  • full length: the work covers the entire album, both sides
  • half an album: the work covers one side of the record
  • quarter: a 10-15-minute work

I checked Mike's discography and these are what I found:

1. Full length works:
Tubular Bells
Hergest Ridge
Ommadawn
Incantations
Amarok

2. Half an album:
Platinum (Platinum)
Taurus II (Five Miles Out)
Crises (Crises)
The Wind Chimes (Islands)
Music from the Balcony (Heaven's Open)

3. Shorter ones
Taurus I (QE2)
Orabidoo (Five Miles Out)
The Lake (Discovery)
Mont St Michel (Voyager)
First Steps (Light + Shade)

The rest shall be the fourth group; the shorties.

Now the vote. One favourite from each group. Please include some thoughts or memories to them. I didn't put up a poll because this is more a discussion type opinion poll.

My favourites:
  • Tubular Bells and Hergest Ridge is the close second. TB is just so complete and involving.
  • Crises -- all the contestants are very cool and stuff, but the lyrics of Crises make it the best.
  • Of these, I used to think The Lake the best but I have to admit I've listened to Orabidoo recently so much and it is quite wonderful.
  • Very hard to say but Discovery's Poison Arrows is catchy and a good choice.

I see people didn't catch this so I renamed the title to a more describing one.
