Tiny DAC, Big Sound, Evolved – Stoner Acoustics UD100 / UD110 / UD120

I'm not using an earphone. I'm using an easy to drive IEM, which is the KZ ED9. Does it still requires an amp? So in other words, it is not because I was listening to youtube/spotify? It is because I don't have enough juice to power it ( amp )

From Stoner:  You can directly play with an iem, but the output impedance of the UD120 is 470ohm, end up the sound of the iem will be very soft and rolled off “depending” on the IEM’s impedance changes among the frequency band.’

Hey Tai,

Will you be getting EBD/EBA for review soon? I really can't wait to see one.
Have a d14 running through smartphone, like the sound but really anticipating how a balanced configuration would sound like, EBD/EBA would be dream come true if they come at SAs budget price and good Sq.

Cheers
Jared

The only EBD/EBA I know of are electronic brake distribution / electronic brake assistance - so no, I am not getting them for review

.

If you are however referring to EGD/EGA - that'll also be a no. I don't have any headphone that runs in balanced configuration, so there is no point in reviewing a balanced DAC / amp combo.

Yeah, EGD/EGA, apologies.

Hmm that's a bummer, it would be hard to get impressions then, going by the SA history I don't think it would be too risky to jump in?
If the combo is priced around 300 then i would give a shot else will wait for review.

Would you think it'll be around 300$?

check out hifimediy. cheers!

OK, I'll try it thanks.
But there are like 4 different ones ranging from $30-90. Which one is best for use with my Samsung Galaxy S3? I will be always be using an amp and the price difference doesn't matter to me.

Thanks.

edit:
scratch that. just ordered the new ZuperDAC. we'll see how it is.

Confused about the current status of this product.

Stoner has their own dedicated site (in addition to the old Blogspot):
http://stoneracoustics.blogspot.com/
http://stoneracoustics.com/

Yet on the new site, I do not see the UD120. Is it still for sale? How does one order?

Finally, how does it compare to the latest similar-price USB "stick" DACs, like
http://hifimediy.com/U2-DAC

Well, folks, I'm going to take the plunge into sub-$100USD USB DACs, so help me decide...
I'm leaning toward the hifimediy.com/U2-DAC because that manuf, has much better documentation than Stoner. Also, FWIW, hifimediy is avail on Amazon.
I could be persuaded into opting for the UD120 if many of you suggest so. If not, my $$ is going to China, not Malaysia  Sorry ClieOS!!
