If you had to compare with 4A (to me they are a little better refined than 4Ai), even if I understand that the sound signature is different, would you say that they are an upgrade from them (4A)?

Thank you Sorensiim.

I don't have the 4.A, "only" the 4.Ai - but the 5.0 is a different beast entirely. The details are all there, but the overall presentation is warmer and more "lush" - and they sound like a subwoofer was added as well. A friend of mine tried them and said the only problem was that they break seal when he's grinning ear to ear.

Thank you very much.

I've had the pleasure of those 5.0 and they really do sound like the 8.A. The 8.A is still slightly more refined, but I'd say you get 90-95% of the 8.A with the 5.0 - at half the price, plus you don't have to spring for impressions, shipping back and forth and best of all: no waiting.

They have that same musical yet detailed sound all you 8.A owners know, as well as stupendous amounts of bass when called for. Like the 8.A I found myself forgetting about the equipment and just disappearing into the music. I hope they will one day find their way back up here so I can properly audition them up against my 8.A.

Well, my 5.0 set can eventually meet you up there for that detailed comparison with your 8.A, but just after my "honeymoon" period with it is over...

So the UPS guy just dropped off a set of 6.A and the Rendition1 amp. Currently listening to The Weeknds "Trilogy" release via MBP -> Apex Glacier -> 6.A (w/ Toxic Cables SP cable). Too early to come with any detailed impressions, but I suspect I'll be busy listening the entire weekend. Shame I got company coming over tonight..

Rendition1 is charging atm. Hoping it'll sound as great as it looks.

Well, UPS have dropped off my 8.A

Feeling a little feint at the moment after my wife told me how much she handed over in Import Duties, Fees and VAT  -   £184 !!

I am have no compunctions in dropping 4 figures on headphone gear....but that amount going to the taxman really sticks in my craw - talk about rip-off Britain

Still, looking forward to a weekend of aural bliss with my 8.A to help bring my blood pressure down.

     Hmmmmm   the 5.0

The inspiration, the reasoning for it etc.

Due to the many requests of an 8.Ai, I pulled out a 5 driver design plan I had made while in Thailand, blew the dust off of it, and got to work.

The end result is a 5 driver IEM, with the 8.A herritage.  Is it an 8.A?   No, as that would be impossible. Is it a great, warm sounding, non-siblant sound signature with mind boggling bass.....

    Yes

So for those that are in search for 8.A'ish SQ in the form of an IEM.....    we have it.   The initial plan is that all 5.0 will be in standard buckey burl

Those are the first set of 5.0 to ever go out the door, and now reside in Japan. Subsequent sets are in Portugal, and USA.....

They have also made a visit to Denmark, where the guru of the 8.A resides.  I imgagine we will hear from him shortly.

 "Rollin in my 5.0"

The other bit of news is:

We are inches away from having an UK location, just as we have on in the USA

Prodigious much? Those look great as always and should do you well.

I was surprised that customs are still subject to bore position even when there's a seal and nothing is blocked. Makes a universal like this a great option vs moderate CIEMs.

That, I can answer. The new 5.0 model has no CIEM "brother" like the 3.Ai/4.Ai, which derive from the 3.A/4.A CIEM models . Like the recent TZAR models, the 5.0 is a completely new model, ence the new name...

Yes this is also a factor, as the Ai series have CIEM counter parts, the 5.0 does not and will not....

       Thanks Putente

You really can not say one is an upgrade over the other, as they are very different. The 4.A/4.Ai has been said to be a "great all rounder...."

But when it comes to dubstep.....   Ehhhh  sure, it can do it.....   but it sure can not do it like the 5.0.  The 4.Ai/4.A does what I call "mimic" bass, it isn't going to giver you different layers etc.  Where as the 5.0 or the 8.A....   its a different world.   But again, lets be clear, a lot of folks talk about outstanding bass response....  but I think it is more of a "wow" factor not so much that they are muddy.  The same is true for the Tzar 350, as that thing delivers frequencies that the spiral ganglion hasn't had to transduce over a life time.  You just sit back as say....   did I just hear a paper hit the floor in the recording studio?

The 350 boggles the mind, then with a swing of the pendelum, the 5.0 boggles the mind.

Heir audio announcement:

A while back, I got an e-mail from a fellow Head Fi member, the e-mail stated  (I paraphrase)

Hello Wizard,

I work in the (X) industry, and I have a team of people working with me, and we think we can assist you.

Thus a new shell was born.  The original hand carved IEM shells were impressive in the fact they were hand carved, but they certainly had their own set of issues. One side may be slightly bigger, smaller, longer ear tip burm taller on one side thatn the other.

Our fellow Head Fi freind drafted some new shells, and had them printed on an SLA machine, and by doing so, the shells now comform with each other.   They currently are still hand poured, but they are itentical.

Now our IEMs represent a "home grown" colaborative effort from Head Fi members.

Thanks so much for your help!

The further refined shell is what excites me the most!

Truth be known, the "5.0" came from the iconic Ford Mustang 5.0

Aha. I was a bit confused at first, cause you were speaking about an added "subwoofer", so it should probably be called 5.1.

Sidenote: I'm sporting a 5.0 (no subwoofer) surround speaker set up at home and was looking for a headphone/(C)IEM to make the sound experience of at least the front stereo set portable. I hope the 8.A I recently ordered will be able to deliver this and from the reviews of fellow owners here (layered bass, clearly distinguishable instruments, effortless playback etc.) I'm pretty sure this can be true.
If the 5.0 had been available earlier, I probably would have tried this, before going full 8.A.:)
