I’ve heard some Genelec’s (8030’s and 8040’s IIRC), and they both come off clear in a natural way to me. They have rounder transients and don’t feel lean or cut in any way. I found Audeze’s MM-500 to be semi-similar to them from memory, and I found that headphone very viable as a monitoring tool. I’m personally just tired of the stereotype that engineers prefer a sound that’s cold, edgy, dry, sterile, etc. It’s as if we’re aliens that like a tone that others don’t. The point of mixing/mastering is to create a track that’s enjoyable to listen to. How can we do that with transducers that we can’t enjoy or engage emotionally with, ourselves?

But, yeah, rant over. :D I mean and take no offense with these posts, by the way. I just felt it was worth saying as someone with a foot in either camp.

I think one of the issues is that they didn’t specify what kind of speakers they wanted to emulate. The presentation you’re describing sounds like near-field speakers, which, in my limited knowledge, are what Genelec’s are typically used as. All the Genelec speakers I saw at MusikMesse were positioned no further than the edge of the engineer’s mixing console. So, I think that’s where the discrepancy is.
Oof I definitely didn't mean to imply all engineers want cold, clinical, bright sound. If it came across that way, may bad! 😅 FWIW, whenever I visit my musician pals at a studio, the sound blows me away. Back in my box I go.

For those who are interested, my detailed review of UM Mentor Multiverse is up, including the comparison to Fabled Sound, Indigo, Traillii, Aroma, and Odin. Enjoy the read :)

Excellent review! The impressions on tonality and technicality align with how I hear the Mentor. My current favourite pairing with the Mentor is with 1950s shielding and the M2. Provides the best balance of bass impact, transparency and musicality for me especially for classical music!

I chose rosewood for a start, hope I won't be poison too deep to try other model:) by the way, I notice there is a 4.4 cable in your pic. Is that part of the package?

I ordered the 4.4mm separately for an extra cost.

I’d be surprised if I stop at just this one! :)

There's always room for a new rabbit hole I suppose.

"A mahagony IEM you say? I'm chuffed to bits! This can match the antique table I can rest it on... I'll take 10."

It's a very deep rabbit hole I supposed. :)

Mahogany is a very nice tonewood. I like it as tonewood use on the accoustic guitar

Could not resist having one made with Pink Ivory

Gorgeous piece.

Jokes aside, looking at ZMFs I've always been curious about how different materials play with the acoustic tonality. Is there a ranking list of sorts for timbreheads?

How about jumping on a plane in a few weeks to visit NYC for a weekend and hang out with other Watercoolers at CanJam, Joop?

If your country had been a little less xenophobe against people that have stamps from Afhhanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, and North Korea in their passport then indeed that would have been a great option. But as long as they don't understand the difference between terrorists and tourists I'm not allowed. True, the words do look similar so I can certainly see their confusion! 🙃
