I run them straight out of my Galaxy S3 and I think they sound great. I don't feel the need to stack an amp, especially when I'm trying to walk/jog with it. I don't use them at home since I feel that I have better HPs there.

Anyone try the Takstar HD5500 yet? I like the 6000 quite a bit, and the 5500 seems like a more powerful, higher cost version focusing on bass.

It's the other way round - HD6000 are currently flagship of Takstar with official price of 130$, while HD5500 is 50$. These are prices in China currently, same in every online store.

Haven't tried any of mentioned unfortunately, but I do own HI2050 for a while, and with some bass and around-4kHZ-region boost, they sound crazily awesome for 30$ how much I paid for them (including shipment).

I own them all, with the 5500 on the way. The HD5500 is the newest DJ, basshead type model, which I ordered $129 directly from Takstar themselves. It is not $50 by a long shot, and is only available in 2 places on aliexpress as of now. You might be thinking of the 5000. The 6000 can be had for ~$87.

When I talked to Takstar themselves, they believe that the Pro 80 is their flagship, not the 6000, which I agree with. The Pro 80 is a better studio monitor, while the 6000 leans toward a fun U or V signature.

Anyone running, to your ears, must have eq tweaks?

About Pro 80 being their flagship I agree, they do sound better than HD6000, so I heard in reviews.

About the prices... Hmm, try it yourself. Go to www.taobao.com and type ''Takstar HD5500". You'll see that the price is listed at about 299 Chinese yuans, which is about 48 US dollars. Maybe the higher price on aliexpress is due to high shipping fees or something.

I don't like using eq-ing normally, but on mine HI2050 I've found a lot of lack in bass (they currently have more than 100 hours of usage). I wouldn't call myself a bass-head (for example the bass on ATH-M50 is too much for me), but on my pair of HI2050 bass is pretty low in amplitude. I've found +4dB at around 40-60Hz region brings up a bass decently without messing up the perfect midrange, and still it's nowhere near powerful bass on M50.

Sorry to mess up your day man. But keep an eye on that taobao prices in future, for reference. I think it gives true insight into real prices of products from chinese companies. Also there is another called www.jd.com, where they sometimes have great discounts. Few months ago I bought the beast Soundmagic HP100 for mere 145USD on 30% discount. But unfortunately these guys only ship and work within China. Foreigners are doomed to pay higher.

I use mistertao.com, as taobao itself doesn't translate very well, and is harder to use, where Aliexpress is easy.

It's funny though, because for the HD 6000, Takstar LTD and Good Buy from aliexpress are $84-89 shipped, where taobao is $130 +shipping.

I placed a mistertao order for the taobao 5500 just to see what the shipping cost would be, which should be minimal via China Post. $52 and $125 is a huge difference.
