I checked ALPS.com, the shaft diameter of RK27 is 6mm. If I buy the knob for shaft diameter 0.25" (=6.35mm), will it fit very well? Just curious. I know I always can add something to fill the 0.35mm gap.

Why I ask this question is on Tangent's parts list, the suggested knobs(e.g. 45KN031) for RK27 are for shaft diameter 0.25".

Please share your experience. Thanks very much!!

I always find it tricky to secure knobs, so what I usually do is put a piece of double-sided tape around the shaft then screw on the knob. It works very well to make sure it doesn't move out of place.

most knobs you buy nowadays have screws in them so you can tighten it on the shaft

.25 inches is 6.35 mm... .35 mm is 0.01 inches or about the thickness of a few sheets of writing paper. For all practical purpose, 6 mm IS .25 inches... Actually really cheap notebook paper is about 0.001 inches thick. So a sheet of really cheap notebook paper wrapped around the shaft 5 times, would give a press fit.

There is a difference. Amb has posted before that it's enough to cause a slight wiggle if you use a knob with a set screw. He suggested purchasing knobs for 6mm shafts, but I haven't seen any of those.

It might be a good reason not to clean all the flash off after cutting the shaft to length.

All of the Kilo International knobs at Digikey are available in 6mm and 0.25" shaft diameters. These knobs are very popular here on projects and are nicer than most of the Mouser stuff.

no, It worked w/o modding anything the way I set mine up... but I made a desktop PIMETA in an oversized Hammand case with an internal TREAD too... I'll post a pic for you as soon as I get them downloaded

Yep...

Depending on how they machined out the hole in the knob, placing a 1/4" knob onto a 6mm shaft will usually result in a tilted knob... Not very obvious on knobs with large diameters but very obvious if you have a skinny knob like on portable amps..
