for me, the er6i. There was no bass whatsoever and the microphonics were really really bad

maybe the cx300 too. i know they are cheap, but i still dont get why people recommend them.

er, maybe because they're fun. and the fact that they're convenient and not terribly costly doesn't hurt.

CX300. More than twice the price of the EP630, they look pretty much identical, and there's barely any difference in quality at all.

Have we ever had "the most underrated headphones" thread?

Now that you mention it, I think we have. Atleast I remember seeing one...

The AKG K-701. I was expecting something more, but have been very disappointed. It's bested by the K-501, in my opinion. The K-501 bass is just a shade lighter (when driven properly, mind you) but absolutely creams the K-701 above that. And K-1000? No contest, top to bottom. If you like the AKG sound, just get the K-501. It takes you much of the way to a K-1000 for about $100. The K-501 is criminally underrated.

So what are we to conclude from this thread? Every single well regarded headphone has been mentioned... from the KSC75, to the K701, to the HD650, Grado GS1K, CX300. Bose of course goes without saying...

Seems that anything recommended on Head-Fi = Overrated.

See my post earlier... this is exactly what I meant.

This thread is so vain =P

But, I hated my friends Senn HD497's. First off, I told him to buy them because he liked sennheisers and wanted a decent pair of headphones comparable to my sr60s at the time. He got them, bragged about the looks over the grados, blah blah blah, raved about how they weren't as bright (I honestly don't even think he knows what qualifies headphones as bright to this day) .

They were just flat sounding really boring headphones when I listened to them. I couldn't get excited about my music at all. Maybe that's good for laid back listeners, but it definately did not hit the spot for me. Grados make me want to rock out. Sigh, I miss my sr60s. I wish I didn't abuse the hell out of them in my dorm room because now they're dead. =(

Everyone talks about grado vs sennheiser: bright vs not so bright, clinical vs warm, moody vs rocking out, blah blah blah. If sennheisers follow the same signature sound as the hd497's, I don't think I ever want to own a higher end pair (especially these 650's everyone wets themselves over).

Just my thoughts and how my ear hears things =)

The HD497 did have a rather unrefined treble, but otherwise it's not too bad for the price (the SR60 cost a good 50% more when I bought mine in the UK).
