The Official Beyerdynamic T1 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Has anyone tried the T1's with a Naim Headline 2?

I recently picked up a Headline 2 which is powered by
a Teddycap mkiii powersuply and I am blown away with
my old Senn HD600's with a cardas cable.  The sound
is spacious, detailed and vocals that gives me goose bumps.
I can't believe how emotionally involving this combo is.  What
I do need is more musical weight with highs that are more relaxed.
A more out of the  head sound stage would be a big plus.

I hear the Senn HD650 is a great match with the Headline 2, providing
a musical and relaxing sound.  So, I am thinking seriously about getting
both.  That is unless the T1's make the hd650's obsolete.

So, if anyone had compared the T1's to the Senn hd600/hd650's I would
love to hear your impressions.

Here's another happy T1 owner !

The headphones have just arrived today and are still burning in.
So far I love their sound, just out of the box, very neutral and well balanced.

I'm using my M³ as headphone amp.

Agent Bond checking in. Serial # 1007. Still loving them almost a year later.

I'm loving mine a lot. I think they are on par if not better than the HD800.

I completely agree...listening to mine right now with Pink Floyd (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and a Saucer Full of Secrets) and they are amazing! Although with Pink Floyd, I think I prefer the HD800's presentation just a little bit more. With Zeppelin and Metallica, no contest...T1s all the way.

#1592. When I got them I decided to sell all my other cans. But to be honest I would have also kept the HD800 if money wasn't so tight right now (we just bought our first house

So far, my new T1 is definetly an improvement over my ATH-W5000.

In comparison the W5000 has a rather strong midrange coloration, even modded as F5005, though not an unpleasant one ....
The T1 is more neutral, sounds more spacious and has a better treble extension.
Modded as F5005 the W5000 is the clear winner in the bass and deep bass section, punchier and goes deeper than the T1.

The T1 is the better allrounder, but the W5000/F5005 has its strong points ... vocals, strings, intimate jazz music.

Does the bass response of the T1 improve during burn-in?

For me, the bass definitely improved after a couple hours of use, be it from burn in or just getting familiar with the sound sig I don't know.  I think using a good tube amp helps immensely, as well as tube rolling, because after I put some Nos Mullards in mine, it seemed the whole sound filled out even more and became less bright.  FWIW

After a couple of days the bass rendering of my T1 improved a lot, in quantity and quality
smile_phones.gif
.

I can easily recognize it when I look at the bass boost control of my M³ headphone amp:

At the beginning, before burn-in, I set the bass boost at 11 o'clock (see picture some posts above).

Now after maybe 30 hours of burn-in, I set the bass boost at zero, so no bass boost at all is adaquate.

Still, I think that the T1's bass rendering is not the most punchiest or controlled in headphone world

, but it's good enough.

IMO, that's slightly more bass punch than is actually on the recording in regards to the T1.

The amount of bass is just right when you use an amp with "zero" output impedance. The impedance bump in the T1 for 100Hz is 1250 Ohms. Tube amps always have some output impedance, especially OTL's so the mid-bass gets increased.
