I will admit that the Pro 900 had some pretty decent mid bass and mid bass punch but to compare the two is like comparing apples and oranges IMO. With that being said it was nice of him to appease the Pro 900 crowd at that time.
I have been looking for that good all a rounder like I've mentioned before and I may give the Denon ah-d2000 a try. I asked this in another thread but Ill ask here too, other than prestigious purposes do you guys think its actually worth the extra 300 to 400 dollars for the denon ah-d5000 over the d2000 if indeed sub bass is relatively the same, while being pushed through an amp and 9 band eq for suttle changes?
sorry im not trying to thread jack here and deviate from crazy bass cans but bass is something i am really wanting along with good quality throughout the entire frequency range. thanks for all your help
Hey, sorry for the late reply.
This thread probably isn't the best for that particular question. I'd prefer this thread to stay the course that got it moved into the Headphone section in the first place as there were none previous...not with rankings and displays and absolutely bess-centric
That said,
I am an owner of several headphones and have heard both cans mentioned on several occasions.
One of them is a "woodie"
They get their own listening stations sometimes
This is a .....expensive section?? (loved the T1)
These are the "Metals"
The woodie of the 2 you mentioned was not what I expected. I am clearly clearly not an audiophile as these ..
Became not my dream cans anymore. And all the wood backed cans had a sound that is different when it comes to bass.
That (pic below) is just epic awesome.
My car audio sub-woofer ported enclosures are wood. (2) 15" subs in two different cars in 2 wooden enclosures. I know wood reflected bass and I love it. In a headphone where the driver is not dedicated? I dunno? My guess is the delay in the signal reflection and it's relation to mids and highs is just a tad different.
Echo and Reverberation
When a wave reaches the boundary, a portion of the wave undergoes reflection and a portion of the wave undergoes transmission across the boundary. Reflection of sound waves off of surfaces can lead to either an echo or a reverberation. The human brain keeps a sound in memory for up to 0.1 seconds. If a reflected sound wave reaches the ear within 0.1 seconds of the initial sound, then it seems that the sound is prolonged. The reception of multiple reflections within 0.1 seconds of each other causes reverberations.
Reflection of sound waves also lead to echoes. Echoes are different than reverberations. Echoes occur when a reflected sound wave reaches the ear more than 0.1 seconds after the original sound wave was heard. In this case, the arrival of the second sound wave will be perceived as a second sound rather than the prolonging of the first sound. There will be an echo instead of a reverberation.
I'll chalk it up to an
echo.
One that doesn't show itself in car audio as the drivers are separated by many feet from the subs. When the sub enclosure is on your ear (wood) and the mids and highs are all coming from the same diaphragm....it seems different. I can hear it.
I am a JVC fanboy because they give you win more than lose by a wide margin. I'd take the DX1000 or 700 over the cans you mentioned as I just am more a fan of the sound. Only time wood is an issue is at extreme amp so I imagine it would never be an issue for you.
The 2 cans you mentioned ( I won't mention them (the cans you mentioned) because I never paid my money and owned them....I kick Q40 in the teeth because I did pay my money and I have a right to give an opinion and name them.
The 2 you mentioned use identical drivers/magnets. Identical. Is it worth the cost for a better cable and other diff's? If you have a lot of money and like spending it to feel good I'd take the more expensive one and know the placebo effect is gonna increase my sound quality. If money is an object...I'd not spend 200-350 diff for the housing.
I would listen to them if at all possible. I was unable to hear the clear difference with jazz or my bass tracks. I am a basshead though....so....a grain of salt...with my opinion
