The Fiio X5 Thread

Hey x RELIC x, you wouldn't happen to have an E12 DIY would you? I bet it would be pretty sweet to really fine tune the sound for your LCD-XC.

Unfortunately no. I bypassed it when it was first released as I was in search of a desktop amp at the time. I hear A LOT of good things about it though........ But that's for the e12 DIY thread.

Guys, do any of you use 128gb(or more) USB drives for OTG with the X5? Any reliable brands out there?

I'm not really in a rush but I'd like to get a backup in the future if I do feel that I need more space.

I never bought one myself, but I remember that several people had good luck with the PNY Turbo 256gb usb stick.

Were the EQ settings posted here for the simulated E12 amp or for the neutrality adapted to the FW2.40 ?

With my Duoza I listen with EQ off or at the neutral setting which I like best.

I tried the "E12" EQ and while it seemed better for my rock oriented music at first, within 30seconds it became tiresome. Too much bass smothered up my face.

I've owned it and it's great but I didn't want it to bulge out of my X5 so I decided on 2x 64gb's to save money. I will add a 256GB USB stick as OTG storage in the future if I feel like I need the space. It is currently $69.99 @ costco right now.

The EQ settings are meant to simulate the BASS BOOST on the e12.

The e12 is fairly transparent and doesn't really color the sound coming front the X5. The most it would add is dynamics and perhaps some soundstage with more difficult to drive headphones.

You know that SD cards don't work with the X5, right? You need microSD for it

Yes I know. I bought this for my DX50 and it worked but when I upgraded to the X5, I didn't like the fit so I moved to microsds.

it looks ugly, would not fit with x5, given that x5 has the rubber doors to microsd slots, but it could do it's job... then, again, having it around, would be more of a bother, than of a help. i really do think that adapters like this could proove usefull, but in the meantime, 2X128gb is enough for most people. 200 gb cards are close, and who knows what future holds....

about x5, it does a great job playing hi-res files.. i really liked that thing about it.

I've had it for quite a while for the DX50 yeah it is ugly but it works. The lowest price I've seen for this 256GB card has been $60-70 so it's a great thing at a $/gb ratio. Here's a pic of it with the X5, I used this tape that won't leave gunk. But it's a thing of the past now. The ribbon was starting to malfunction as well so I just made things simpler. As I've said, in the future I'll probably just pick up a 256GB USB OTG drive if I really feel the need to add more space.

I just use the dac function of the X5 with my phone for stuff i don't have on my X5. Works great, especially if you want to stream or download from sources.

That's a brilliant idea, is your phone an iPhone by any chance? I don't own an lightning to usb cable but seems pretty cool if I can use it with the X5.

EDIT: Just did a quick search, and seems like it doesn't work but I wonder if someone has tried it recently?
