I am getting a bit of noise when using my westone w40s with my x5. Is anyone else have the same with this combo?

I did at first, but some of it may have been the recordings themselves...not sure. I use low gain setting on the X5 with the W40's and normally get great results. Most of the time now I use the X5 with the E12A and have no noise issues at all...but like I said, the hiss with the X5 alone may have been from the albums I was listening to. Try different recordings and see if the noise floor is much lower on better recordings. Good luck!

I get minimal noise with my westone um pro 50. But it is so low that it is almost unhearable. But it is definitely there. You could here it real good if you connect the x5 as dac to pc and the relay switches on. There is some noise coming on then.

I am not hearing a lot of noise, just some at the beginning and end of songs when the music tapers off.

with sennheiser ie8, one of the most sensitive iem to noise, i get some hiss even when music is not playing. not much, but it is there. it is quieter than most quiet passages of music, but i can clearly discern it without music playing.

Is your Gain set to Low? If I can find a couple well-recorded albums/files on my X5 that have a black background than I know that the player is good enough (for black backgrounds) and that what I'm hearing is more than likely just the recording itself. I never have any issues when using the B&W P7's, only the easier to drive W40's and even then I do have recordings with no background noise/hiss. Good luck.

I don't hear any hiss with my Shure SE846, although it has higher sensitivity than e.g. the Sennheiser IE8. BTW, if you want to be sure if it's the player, not the recording, just pause the music.

Many 70 ties recordings have this altough remastered.

I don't hear the hiss either, but I've seen one claim they can hear it with HD 800 and many posts in various threads relating to the SE846 and other sesitive IEMs.

Manufacturing tolerances?

In people's ears

I was meaning to suggest that some are sensitive to amp hiss, while others are blissfully unaware.
