So, what's the best firmware version thus far? I've not been following this thread ever since my subscriptions have mysteriously stopped emailing me. I think I'm currently on 3.20.

Check that, it says 3.24 beta.

3.34b has the best sound quality.

Just downloaded and installed that one. I would have to agree, sounds sweet. The bass is tamed a bit though, but getting used to it.

Paulus XII: What do you think about 2.14b vs. 3.34b?

I know that wasn't directed at me, but I thnk 3.34b is the closest to 3.14b. i'm also upping the gain on 3.34b (i know, it's pretty much necessary for 3.14b). I'm quite excited about 3.34b.

Again, FiiO, thanks for this new update. Can't wait to play around with the playlist feature too, though that's not as impt to me.

Great news! Joe has said on this thread that there will be a new firmware for the X3. I just don't know when it will be available. Nothing seems to have been said that there will be a new one in this official X3 thread.

A lot of people who didn't get 3.34 at the release date seem to think it has been out for a lot longer as there is no easy way of telling because the first post on the 3.34b thread just kept updating and getting called whatever firmware was the latest. The thread was actually first called the official 3.21b thread I think and the starting time was november last year. I remember 3.34 coming out in February this year but as the thread is now renamed, it makes it look like that firmware has been out since November.

2.14b was the X3 FW that sounded clean and clear with an expanded soundstage. I stopped using an amp with my X3 once 2.14b dropped. 2.14b was just fantastic!

Coming from 2.1, 2.14b was a huge step-up IMO. Agree about the improved soundstage but the positioning was a bit off. Later versions, apart from 3.0 which was a bit bassier, pretty much improved on it and 3.34b has got most of it done right.
