The Fiio X3 Thread.

Lets not start a flame war on cables, as it is a touchy subject here on head-fi.

Personally I believe I can hear a difference.

My advise, don't dismiss it before you've tested different cables. Headphone cables usually have the most impact, then interconnects.
No war here good sir. If you hear a difference then that is great. Headphones and Amps play a major role in the difference, wire is quite a bit further down the list... Now if you are going to tell me that wire has a sonic direction then I'd have an issue with that. :D

Thats it, cables are the last thing to upgrade. I love my setup so I now make all my own cables for it. As i like the look, build and sound.

in short i am planning to get this one :

instead of that one :

It's a nice cable but not pure silver you know. It is hybrid copper+silver.

I personally prefer all silver for interconnects and then match the headphone cable to the headphone. That's just me though. The silver cable to the C5D with the X3 has made quite a difference, a lot more balanced and detailed compared to the headphone out, compared to a normal copper interconnect (also built by myself) it has a little more detail, the copper is smoother/more full bodied.

I make my own, so I don't spend a fortune on cables, even the pure silver ones are not expensive if you build your own.

It would be good to have the best of both worlds, good cable with right angle plugs. I always wonder about the strain on the sockets, which tend to be pcb mount, thus held on by solder only, not chassis mounted. But then I am a bit like that.

I couldn't use right angled because it would block the volume toggle. I'm not worried about the strain as it comes under very little when in my coat pocket.

? does the material of the interconnect cable and headphone cable make difference really

Yes, silver plated copper in transparent PTFE looks pretty.

I will be making short cables from this stuff for my HD650 and Q701(I already have a $1 short cable for my modded T50RP, it's red so I expect the sound to be a little hotter ), they probably wont be as good as standard, but...

BTW, How short does a special cable have to be to run out of "magic"?

That is a familiar looking IC, just a little different wire...

I have this one when I want a little more "Fun" sound...

But it's usually always a gamble...

Just test line out of X3 with my two systems

The main system, I connect X3 to Harman KardonHK-990 integrated amp to Martin Logan Vista. I think sound will be on par with entry level CD player such as Marantz 6004 or Rotel 1072. But it completely unfair to compare with my Cary Audio CD-303T Professional ($6000)

Then I try X3 with Onkyo 876 avr / Wharfedale Denton speaker. This combination much more better, even better than when I play CD from Pioneer BDP-LX71 player. Very fluid and relax sound.

I fall in love with this cheap gadget and can't wait for X5 then X7 to come.
