The dt880 is great with piano.

I love listening to piano music with these. I am listening to Chopin's piano concerto in E minor, and it sounds lovely.

So far I have yet to hear a more pleasing representation of piano music, short of live of course.

Anyone else feel that way about these cans?

The DT880 does piano very well. Though the best I've heard for piano is the DT48. Nothing else gets it quite as right. The timbre, intonation, decay, everything, is just perfect on the DT48. It does the same for female vocals and is frighteningly good with most acoustic music. If you get a chance to hear one, you should.

I was a piano player in my youth, piano is K701 territory IMO.

The DT880 sounds nice here too, but not entirely natural. Too much emphasis on the string share due its treble peak, not enough body due to its (mini) mids recession.

IIRC I loved my DT880s when listening to female vocals. Stuff like Patricia Barbe, Jane Monheit, Diana Krall and Norah Jones sounded spectacular on those cans.

There are many things that DT880 do right but I liked pianos more on my Seins. /shrug

After trying out some piano tracks and some female vocals (this time in Macy Gray), I definately agree with the statement about the female vocals and piano.

EDIT: Bloody American spelling of things.

My 880 seemed a little lifeless with my 2move, but I was happy with it.

After I built my Millett SS it opened them up so much more. The whole frequency range seemed to extend.

As for warmth, I used my Grado 325i before these and the 880 is very warm in comparison.
