Hey man, I am with you. I just upgraded it to the LOAK-2(CL) with a copper backplate, that's all.
Would you mind sharing how MIROAK and LOAK2 compare? Quite a steep price difference.

Same here, I've found "my iem". Haven't used any other set since I got these.
Ooh, must feel nice. I feel I'm getting closer, yet at the same time farther by the day.

Speaking of bass.

A track called “Sonic Colonic” (there’s a clue in the name 😂) by Pitch Black is a good test of bass in a different way.

It has very fast bass which is individual tones but at what must be something like 300 bpm. A sluggish poor bass performer makes this sound more like a monotone drone than a fast cyclical rumble.

Combine that with energetic midrange and treble notes make it a busy track. It isn’t going to be everyone’s taste !

“Harmonia” is another interesting track if anyone cares to listen, easily mistaken for monotonous droning bass but actually rather nuanced.

Listening with IE600 now and the little 7mm DD’s do a good job.

In fact their whole “Rude Mechanicals” is an interesting album for fans of electronic, dub, ambient music, I guess it is a bit of a mash up, best played loud.
Thanks for suggestions, will try some later. IE600's DD is insane. I do miss mine occasionally. The form factor to WOW sound factor ratio is still the best I've heard.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Very well said and I agree regarding the strings and BAs - Butastur (10BA) does them so well! Almost a tangible quality to them. As if I laid my ear right on that violin or guitar and it's weeping just for me.

Struggling from FOMO and being a headfier is probably one of the worst combos of 'illnesses'.

I agree that bang for buck should be reserved for sets under $50, maybe at most $100. About AüR, though, they always had a vision, I'm sure. Standing still as the market progresses was never part of that vision. Moving forward is the only way. And yet, the price of sub kilobuck for a quadbrid is, in a weird sort of way, a good deal when you check the prices for other sets sporting similar configurations.

I always struggled with why some collectors draw the line abruptly somewhere right in the middle of the field and collect mid-fi instead of - less frequently of course - reaching for those top fruits (as long as funds allow, but 5x500 equals 1x2500). Would you care explaining your stance on this topic?

This Origin different-but-same nozzle drama has been swept under the rug all too swiftly, I feel. This is obvious marketing foolery and awfully disrespectful. Surely they had to think this through and realised sooner than later someone will graph all three nozzles??? I was interested in Origin when it was announced. Not anymore.
I have a couple of kilobuck iems and while they are terrific I don't feel the %improvement is worth it for me. I enjoy the midfi game and love collecting. Quite a few have come so close to the Kilobuck level for me ESPECIALLY as I prefer musicality over details. My signature of choice is warm, bassy and lush timbre which is serviced by the midfi sector rather well.

It depends on what you want and what you consider "real" bass, really. Some like their bass to be THICC (otherwise, no one would buy FirAudio XE6). Some like bass to rattle their skull off (think of FATFreq).

I like things to be tack sharp but nuanced, so I want to hear snappy attack, like every kick, every beat is clearly defined, otherwise I would find the IEM too mushy to convey the sense of timing and rhythm (it does not get my toe tapping). On the other hand, it must be able to handle bass detail to deal with strings. Ironically, P8 can do both, so I frankly don't understand why people have problem with its bass, though I can see why people don't love it. I'm indifferent about this. Maybe 3/5 or 4/5. Personally, if a manufacturer can get a clean 15dB bass shelf, it would be ideal. Think of FATFreq Maestro Mini but a bit snappier.

Interestingly, someone told me that the kind of sound I like is more like what the microphone hears when recording. Live music are boomier and much less cleanly defined. But better "vibe".
The nimble and detailed bass is present in the Wu Zetian, but was extremely pronounced in the EA1000, and can be in the IE800 and N5005, but the EA1000 was a specialist in that type of bass delivery. It's the opposite of the insanely punchy OD200, which I was listening to last night, and is so heavy handed and punch punch punch, but lacks finesse. Aure's are right smack dab in between the EA1000 and OD200.

P. S. It would be cool if Crin can dare to tune $100-150 all-BA

When he trash talks Aful magic one, you know that he is launching one full BA set the next day.

Anni 2023. Demo it. Bass is so important to get done right.

Lemme check the price of kidney on blackmarket real quick.

And then I’m coming to you.

You know, those critical listeners amongst us will be able to define terms like, technicalities, texture, detail retieval, etc.. I don't claim to be one of those guys, but here's a few of my examples to chew on.
  1. For me, technicalies represents if a transducer, or other piece of audio equipment, can faithful reproduce what's on the recording. Take a flute for example. A musician knows intuitively by ear what the highest frequencies their flute is capable of reaching. If a transducer can reproduce that property, then it is technically capable. If it falls short, it lacks technicalites with respect to one that does right by the flute.
  2. For me, Texture refers to descriptors associated with what physical properties make up an instrument. For example, we know a bass string is not smooth when we run our finger along its length. Same thing with the surface of a drum. So when we listen to a transducer capable of revealing "bass texture," we sense the player's fingers sliding on the string. Some reveal this property really well, others don't.
  3. Detail retrieval does just that. Let's say we have a recording of someone walking or running away in a distance from a start. Intuitively, we know the first steps are louder, the furthests steps are faintest. Say we are the director of this recording. We tell the actor to run exactly 30 steps. Transducers that reveal all 30 steps are excellent at detail retrieval, whereas those that reveal only 20 steps on playback are mediocre IMO.

So eloquently put, sir! That’s exactly how I think.

Given the fact that I think the AFUL Snowy night is detailed enough but my pals like @pradiptacr7 and @baskingshark uniformly complains that this dongle lacks detail, maybe I’m not listening as critically as I expected 😂

Crossposting from the CanJam Thread.

I am going to attend my first-ever CanJam!! Waiting for boarding to start for my flight. I am just excited man, i have attended, organized, helped in organizing so many events in my country, this time i am going to attend an international event and get to meet so many faces that I have just talked over the HeadFi or other channels.

Enjoy, mate! Looking forward for your impressions.

Btw, CANTOR CANTOR CANTOR 👏👏👏

Has anyone here heard the Dusk, or reviewed it?

Not me.

Though I can already sense r/headphones echo chamber creaming their pants and would recommend nothing but dusk 2 for the next half decade.

Simgot DEW4X landed this morning. It’s surprisingly heavy for something so small. Will fish my EM6L from bag in the drawer to do more careful listening later.

Tbh, most of these modern dongles sound just fine. It’s a bit more here, a bit less there that obsessive folks like myself care enough.

Edit: couldn’t resist the temptation to I did AB test between the DEW4X and Snowy night with my U12t. Surprised how different they sound.

My Trio finally arrived after some delays and they were worth the wait. For about $40CDN they are awesome all throughout the frequency range. Technicalities are pretty darn good too.

Still playing around with the tuning switches and at the moment I'm on UDUU. Anyone else have any other good setting for the tuning switches?

The first thing you should trash after reaching China is google maps. Google maps support is at best shoddy to put it euphemistically. I faced the same issue while looking for the shop and had to call them for directions. I dont think they have a website that i know of, however the shop is loaded with goodies, from the latest to the greatest.

Couple of us have UUUD. Couple have UDUD. Basically, Treble switch is usually down. I usually have the first option but on certain genre, go all (switches) up with the fairies.
