OnePlus Buds 3

Had to get a new TWS for my work, list getting long of owned buds over the years. Sound is often good on most buds, the problem is always microphones being bad from the start or getting worse over time. And that list is with Sony, AKG, Bose, Jabra, etc. The one who has had the best clean microphone was Huawei Freebuds Pro 2, but that also said goodbye now after daily use for 1.5 years.

Wanted to try something else this time, OnePlus Buds 3. And I'm super impressed by both the sound quality for music, and the exceptionally clean microphone. Talk a lot on the phone at construction sites and I have a darker pitched voice, this is so clean and full sounding that a few have mentioned it asking if I'm home from work since it's so silent and clean.

And I really don't have anything to complain about the sound of them playing music, EQed it to my taste and it is quite impressive and can rival much more expensive buds in technicalities and how natural and rich the timbre is.

This is not a review unit or anything like that, just a purchase I did for myself. Paid $100 here in Norway with 2 year warranty, would call that a really good deal.
One con would be the oval tips, would much more preffer normal IEM tips.

Freebuds Pro 2 also had oval tips. How is the sound of OP Buds 3 vs Freebuds?

Yup, I guess they all just try and copy apple.
I would say sound is more full bodied on the OnePlus Buds 3, and a little better technically.

Seem better than Sony Linkbuds S and Huawei Freebuds Pro 2, but probably a step behind Bose Quietcomfort earbuds 2

The Kiwi Ears Singolo is an 11 mm LCP DD.

Singolo 1.jpeg

It packs a Kiwi Acoustic Resonance System - KARS - which is essentially an extended labryinthine acoustic tube that is intentionally installed for tuning purposes. Think of it as an acoustic damper via air pressure to down-throttle certain frequencies, and essentially it results in an increased bass resonance; this is something akin to the tech used in the AFUL MagicOne.

Singolo 2.jpeg

As you can see from the graphs, this acoustic tube does furnish an 8 dB big sub-bass shelf, with a very clean and bleed-free mid-bass. The sub-bass is very visceral, with rumble felt down to the chest. Mid-bass is textured and fast, with zero smearing.
Kiwi Ears Singolo.jpg

The midrange is very transparent, and with just a 7 dB ear gain at the upper mids, vocals are forwards but not shouty. Treble is relatively smooth and fatigue-free.

Imaging, layering and timbre are solid, though perhaps this isn't the most micro-detailed or massive stage IEM (but it is not harsh compared to some pinna gain boosted/treble on steroids CHIFI).

Tonally, this is similar to the measurebator's gold standard of the Moondrop Variations, except the Singolo is not so recessed in the lower mids (so it doesn't sound so sterile).
Singolo Versus Variations.jpg

Will do some testing and burn-in and report back, quite a nice implementation of technology in a budget single DD.

There is a Hi-Fi Show in Oslo/Asker...but I have not seen that we were told about that..ajajaj

Just watching the weather in Oslo now made me cold...:)

Cheers!
Mostly speaker oriented show, still a fun experience. Was to busy this year to attend, last show I attended had a few headphones and also 1 IEM 😉

But it's Hi-Fi :)

It seems like a good show. I am watching it now on YouTube, which someone posted about.
The worst part of these shows for me is the choice of music.
It seems that it's the same everywhere...They want to kill us with boredom :)

Andrew Jones Source Point 8 speakers...I loved them when I listened to them in October.

I almost bought them, but there isn't enough space in my room for them.
But I am so keen to get a pair eventually.

Thanks for the photos, even if they are from last year's show...

Oh, and this pair of IEMs counts :)

Cheers!

How is the fit? I have the Crib Red but the nozzle is too wide for me.

This one fits me well (average sized ears), no complaints for ergonomics.

I’ll be interested to see how the Kiwi Singolo does in a mono y mono, to your prized Moondrop Variations.
