Is the Tri Starsea worth picking up in 2023?

I remember it was quietly praised by most reviewers but was never a mainstay in the market.

FR looks fairly unique for the money, give me some Mangird Tea vibes.
From what i remember, while its good, its quite picky with genre.
Its have great clarity, separations and details.
But its fairly bass-lite, so if you need some slam for your rock music its might not be for you.

Only if on sale perhaps. At original price, in 2023, I think the Starsea is just middling in this day and age.

It has 4 tuning options via switches, but they are not drastically different. Quite technical, note weight on thinner side with BA timbre.

There is some venting issue, so some consumers may find a pressure build up in the ear +/- driver flex.

Major elephant in the room - its impedance is 9.5 ohm, which makes the Starsea incompatible with sources with output impedance > 1.125 ohms. Otherwise the FR will be skewed with high OI sources.

QDC 8 Pro and Superior, super interested in the new switch (it's patented)

Thanks for all the kind replies! This is a consideration for 11.11, I don't think the Starsea is worth $130.

Found a very obscure Fiio IEM called FA5E which was a Japanese exclusive sold at E-Earphone, never heard of this

With Simgot EM6L or Truthear Nova around, i think starsea have become somewhat last gen kinda thing.

Hell if you wanna have basslite detail monster, KZ AS24 is at $120.

Not sure if this belongs here but I just received my order of Dunu S&S ear tips. They sealed my short nozzle shallow insertion IEMs where no others in my collection would. Until the Dunus, these problem child IEMs required constant fiddling which was annoying. They are super pliable, in the shape of foams and seal just the same without the foam drawbacks. What a lifesaver in keeping these IEMs in play. Now they just disappear. Righteous!

Here is another set I bought and reordered another. They are 14mm in large, seal extremely well and stay put. At 3 pair for $5.95 they are highly recommended. I have found there is no one style of ear tip that works across-the-board. These and the Dunus fill in those gaps.

Just received the Juxear Clears. Right off the bat, they were super finicky to seal. They either wouldn't seal or vapor locked when they did. Enter DUNU S&S to the rescue!!! Even these required a bit of fiddling but once sealed, no further attention was required. These DUNUs are life savors.

The first listen impression reveals good clarity/transparency, an articulate midrange albeit a bit pronounced, nice bass weight and extension, when called upon they dig deep without over powering the midrange. The treble is non-offensive with jus the right amount of extension for my taste. I don't feel deprived. I will let them burn-in and see what's what. I suspect the mid range will settle. If so, these will be in the daily rotation. For $49, they punch above their weight. Nice case. I opted for the 4.4 mm cable (which I wish other IEM manufacturers would offer) and the cable itself is rather nice - nothing to complain about at this price point.
