Is the synthetic leather used in the X-65 different from the one used in the AKG K812. I found the pleather used for the K812 to be very durable - after 5 years it was like new, only the shape of the earpads was changed. It looks like the pads use the same fake leather as the Hi-X65. Mine turned to dust and made a mess. I replaced the pads with Dekonis for the ATH-M50X. I will be interested to see how easy it is to use aftermarket pads on these with that magnetic connection since AA doesn't seem to like offering different materials.

The edges of the pads, as they rest exactly on the skin, now feel stiff and sharp. This is after two sets of pads!
I don't dare buy replacement pads because I don't know if they are sharp-edged too - and they are not cheap.

Did you try the Sonax? The edges where the outer and inner layers meet will have a tendency to bulge out against the ear as you discovered when the pads start to dry out, by keeping the pads supple this is less likely to happen. The Sonax will restore even the old pads, apply to the inner and outer surfaces, might take two applications over 2 days. The edges of the pads, as they rest exactly on the skin, now feel stiff and sharp. I use...Sonax, pads remain soft and supple, great for rubber speaker surrounds also.

I'm going to try medical glycerine, it's skin friendly!
...
Let's see (hear) if Composer is also "Schlager fest".
“Schlager" = hit song; "fest" = suitable

I own this album on CD and vinyl too, unfortunately it does not contain all the songs in the same way. I ripped this CD and play from my Mac.

I've never used the K812s so I don't know. It could be my oily skin contributing to destroying the pads. I'm pretty good at destroying the wires of IEMs that go over the ears just from skin contact also. All I know is I prefer to avoid the pleather stuff to avoid any issues. Is the synthetic leather used in the X-65 different from the one used in the AKG K812. What I’ve heard from Beyerdynamic is that the good pleather variants offer much better resistance against body oil and sweat than leather (also not one kind of course, so not a simple comparison). Beyer switched to pleather for the T5 due to the high rate of deteriorated leather pads…I've never used the K812s so I don't know. It could be my oily skin contributing to destroying the pads. So I hope, AA chose a good pleather…

Depends on our body oils, mine loves to destroy certain rubber and adhesives...had 3 Sennheiser balanced CH800 cables for my HD800S disintegrate on the exposed rubber sections, they're not cheap but Sennheiser replaced all 3.I've never used the K812s so I don't know. Also some ear pads also just disintegrate, again the Sennheiser .
So far no such evidence with my AKG K872s, but I'm also being more diligent about cleaning and applying rubber/vinyl or leather conditioner.
