Alright, I appologize for asking what is undoubtobly the most annoying question to ever grace a tech forum, but here it is: "What is a decent sounding technology Y for under price X"

Specifically, I am looking for a set of full-size headphones for between $50 and $90, preferably somewhere in the middle.
I am trying to find a set to get my dad for christmas, we do sound at an average sized small-town church on a weekly basis, and a set of good headphones would make his life incalculably easier.
While its obviously best to mix the sound of the praise band to what sounds best to the house, we also try to strike a balance by making sure it sounds atleast half decent in the recordings we make as podcasts. This is where having headphones that didn't come from fye for $20 would probably help.

These headphones need to be:
1) affordable:
2) Decent: They don't need to be made of unobtanium, let you hear the voice of Buddha eminating from the guitar or anything like that, they just need to sound a little better than the turds we are using.
3) They will not be amped externally, so they need to be fairly forgiving, they will be driven by the onboard headphone amp for the soundboard, an Allen & Heath ZED-428
4) Having rotating ear-cups is a plus, because if one of us has to leave temporarily, one person has to monitor both the recording and the house sound.

These are some of the ones I have found, and any information on them is greatly appreciated, as well as any suggestions

I have experience with the 428s.  They're closed headphones, so they sound somewhat claustrophobic.  They're Senn's, too, so they're not exactly all that detailed.

Close to your budget, and excellent headphones that will grow with time with a better source and a better amp, which I just found out from experience going from a PA2v2 portable amp to a full-sized Matrix M-Stage amp.

i'd go with the hd280. they are excellent with monitoring, mixing; they have rotatable earcups, and even block external noise. the build quality is superb and they last a very long time. probably the most accurate headphones i have ever heard.

I'd recommend the M50, V6 or the SRH440.

I ordered the Sony's for my dad, I'm sure he'll love them.
Darn your forum and my techlust, because now I want a pair of headphones for myself.
I like the size of the Grado sr60's, and the consensus seems to be that in this pricerange they are one of the best, but I have a few concerns:

What is the cheapest way to make them circumaureal (pads etc)? I have rediculusly awkward elf like ears that stick out of my head like our last few presidents, and because of that I have had poor experiences with (albet much cheaper) superaureal headphones.

My pricerange would be no higher than the Grado's, so <$80

These headphones would be worn around campus mostly, so I wouldn't want too big of a set. I would be listening to Rock (Soft to hard, classic to modern), Metal, and Electronica. They wold be used un-amped for now, mostly from the headphone jack on my AV-30 monitors or my Creative Zen mp3 player. Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated
