I understand that some of the speakers from the BBC monitor tradition had narrower dispersion patterns to reduce bounce of consoles and reduced coupling to the room.
However, dispersion patterns are frequency dependent and the laws of physics apply for all manufacturers so these are very subtle differences.
In any case if you are in the market and can arrange to listen to the speakers in your home you might want to look at the Harbeth Monitor 30 as an example designed in this tradition.
I'm not sure if they are more directional than other speakers, but no matter which speaker you use, hitting the 'sweet spot' just makes it so much better. Speaker placement can be very time consuming and frustrating, but once you get it right, you'll be in heaven.
