I am not sure if it was already clearified but I just talked to someone important from Sennheiser and the next flagship will definitely be called "HD 800". Officially they say that they drop the "700" because the 7 is a number that is supposed to bring bas luck in some asian countries. This makes sense when you look at Sennheiser's product range the "7" is quite rare.
But I also think that it fit's Sennheiser's interests because the "7" is used so often in the product names of the competitors.

Just wanted to let you know if it wasn't clearified yet. At least the search didn't show anything like that.

I've always thought it would be extremely dumb for them to call it "HD700" -- which makes it (for people who are swayed by these things) look inferior to "701" (AKG K701). And that surely is a decisive reason, don't you think?

Of course, but do you think that they can say something like that officially?

I don't have any other information. It's still in development, no info about the planned resale price and not even what new technics are going to be used.

But I think what AKG has planned will be much more interesting...just to spread some rumors until I post my IFA-thread. Hehe.

I'm not sure how they see 7 as bad luck. The 777 is that jackpot in many casinos. I've been wishing for 777 every time we go gambling.

Is AKG planning something as well? I also thought that it was confirmed that senn is working on a new stat. Also, there's sony with their new k1000-style headphone they announced.

I tried to generate more buzz in the thread but unfortunately it went unnoticed by most and died off. Perhaps if it had a more catching title, like "Sony unveils possible K1000 killer!".

Or maybe it is the successor to the qualia. Whatever the case may be, we all know what sony can do with dynamic headphones ... I have pretty high hopes for this one, and I may end up selling some stuff just to buy one and try it out and review.
