Saw a MSB select stax amp listed on classified. Wish I didn’t separate my budget toward different amps.:triportsad:

As far as I know the MSB select ES amp (as well as their conventional headphone amp models) can only be used with MSB DACs. They can't be used with a different companies source. Not sure why that is, just what I've read.

Some says the amp can be used with other DACs as long as one doesn’t mind the lack of volume control. I wonder if MSB’s amp can be modified to add a pot somewhere in the circuit.

Thats neat. I'd always wondered if it could be used with DACs with volume control (or a preamp) and MSB was just saying it so people wouldn't try it with a fixed input and blow their headphones out. That being said, for the money, I'd probably commission a DIY t2.

The X9K needs some "run in time" when out from fresh box. My friend had the opportunity to listen with mine about 150 hours against he's new one. They sounded different. The midrange opens up and becomes liquid after time. I also have the feeling it's still getting better after 150 hours. We both agreed that the X9K is worth every penny and might be the best headphone ever produced. The sound X9K is so complite and natural that's very hard to imagine that something is better.

Yes in my humble opinion the STAX SR-X9000 is the best headphone in the world currently which compeats directly at the same very top level with the Senns HE1 (when using top gear) and in definitely sounds better than the hifiman Shangri-La.

I've heard the HE-1 and wasn't impressed at all.
Sounded like a HD650 to me and was lacking dynamics.
Maybe I didn't have the volume up enough?
I'm going to have to try to listen to one again.

How much time did you have with them? FYI, I have not heard them, just curious.

I´ve heard the HE-1 two times at the HighEnd in Munich. The last time for about 30 minutes. To my ears it was like a sounded Stax 009. But we all know, that the music they choose for the demonstration, makes it hard to compare to other headphones.
EQ a 009s on a BHSE or Carbon is 95% to simulate most of the electrostatic Headphones to me.
