STAX SR-Ω (SR-Omega) '' The Legendary OMEGA ''

I purchase the earpads of x9k and try to install in omega. I find the hole position of x9k earpads are almost the same with the omega. Therefore I use the rivets and dustproof mesh of omega and x9k earpads to install into omega shell.

After use x9k earpads, the soundstage is larger. And the sound is fuller and more bass impact. The tonality is more neutral and I like the change very much.

Fantastic work. I’ve always thought the omega pads were bizarrely shaped. Next you need to replace the headband with the x9k’s

These definitely seem like changes that would benefit the Omega. I already slightly preferred the Omega by just a hair, but would be very interested in hearing with this mod. And looks great too!

Have you heard / do you own, the x9k?

It would be interesting to know if it takes it a step closer or further toward that sound
I have heard the x9k many times.

After replace the earpads , I didn’t compare directly but I think the sound is step closer to the x9k. However the tonality and texture of sound are different. My friends are fascinated in timbre after hearing the omega.

Therefore the owner of the omega can try to replace the earpads. Of course, be carefully.

Considering the price of the X9000, at least Stax didn't extort the price of the earpads. Thumbs up for Stax!

Anyone know of an adhesive that would work in retacking the leather to the felt?

I've been using bathroom/gutter silicone. Works like a charm

I can give that a shot. I’m thinking wedging a few business cards under there to keep the surfaces together during bonding will probably work?

I ended up using some superglue that came with a brush. I felt that the tight space would make it hard to get in there without making thin silicone strings as I pulled away. The brush allowed me to put it exactly where I wanted it and the quick cure time meant there was no chance of shifting while curing.
