I'm looking at building a battery power supply for the SB Duet. I have access to 12vdc SLA batteries and was wondering if anyone tried running their SB Duet on 12vdc? Is it safe or will I ruin the unit?

I have been running it from a 12v battery,BUT I used a regulator down to 5v as it shoul be.But I don´t hear any difference between battery and the original PSU,I´ve been told thats because the Duet uses internal switching regulators.
Any one else done any comparisions?

are you sure? I just looked at the website, and it specifies a regulated 9v supply.

Quote:

Squeezebox Receiver Power input
■9.0V DC, regulated
■Center positive, sleeve ground
■Connector: 1.05mm ID, 3.5mm OD, 7mm long
■Min supply rating: 550mA
Power supplies
■Universal switching power supplies included
■Power supplies are small, efficient, and do not get hot
■One of four adapter plate styles is included depending on country

My guess is that it has a couple regulators underneath the hood to supply the appropriate voltage to each device. Supplying more than the specified voltage can cause any number of problems, and I personally wouldn't take the risk.
