Has anybody else noticed this?

Spam in general is on the increase. My ISP was crippled around Xmas/New Year time with spam & virus attacks.

However, over the past few months with this year in particular the spam has just gotten unaceptable. Not so much the volume because I filter most of it out these days but the content.

Seemingly harmless spam emails are getting in and when I view them I am confronted with **** material. I'm talking about HardCore **** material! I'm a pretty enlightened guy but I don't want this in my mail, there's a time and place for that and it's not in my every day emails. It's just a good job that only myself and my old man use this computer.

It sickens me that this material is being sent to me. Potentially some of this material could be of under age females and that causes me great concern. The consequences for an individual could be quite dire.

All this and not to mention the continuous onslaught of adverts for viagra and breast/penis enlargements.

I couldn't agree with you more, I got on one of the enlargers lists recently and they are sending me the same E-mail 4 to 6 times per day. I've never filtered my mail before, but this is getting so old I think I might start.

The part that bothers me is that really little kids get this spam as well.

I haven't seen any email like that, but that's really weird that somebody would do that...anyway, I get lots of drug spam, legal and illegal.

I almost never receive that. We must fit different spam demographics!

I've had the same e-mail address for a decade, so it's probably been on every spammer's list for years. So, I get it all. Looking in my trashbox, I see spam for: hardcore ****, cheap prescription pharmaceuticals, affordable mortgages/loans, cheap computers, bargain software (including anti-spam software!), penis enlargement, get-rich-quick schemes, cheap real estate, eBay scams, PayPal scams, Nigerian 419 scams, religious diatribes, stock market tips, lonely-wives-need-a-date, chain letters, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on.

My ISP uses spam-blocking technology on their end and I use heavy-duty filtering on my end, and I still occasionally see spam in my inbox. Before I and my ISP instituted anti-spam measures, I was receiving approximately 2500 spam e-mails per month. At the moment, I'm down to about 300 per month.

Other people may consider 300 to be a lot of spam, but it's manageable for me. If my or my ISP's filters are compromised and the spamload increases, then I might implement some sort of anti-spam software on my end (i.e. something with Bayesian filtering such as SpamSieve). I suspect that my monthly spamload would drop to a handful, as a result.

Well, I am receiving about 50-60 spams per day!!! Viagras, penis enlargements, mortgages, life insurances, etc, etc....I AM PRETTY FED UP WITH IT AND IT FRUSTRATES ME A LOT!!!

And it's just because I started my own website 3 years ago. I have never promoted my site anywhere, it's a personal site for me and my friends, but I left my contact email adresses there and it turned to be a mistake. Now the email addresses are written with "AT" instead of "@". No change, the amount remains the same.

I do filter emails it but it's a manual work and it's time consuming.

It advertises internal cellular phone antenna. Of course it's just a name and the email address is @hotmail.com, but it's hilarious. A smap from Jude.

I changed my email address last year due to the high rate of incoming **** crap. With my new address, and Mailwasher installed, I get a rare spam email. I only give my address to my close friends with the understanding that nothing, and I mean nothing, gets forwarded to me. All orders I place on the internet, I use a crap email address, and forward to my legit address. So far, so good.

i've been using softhome.net free email for a few years now, and haven't seen any spam so far. my hotmail accounts are overloaded with spam within a week.

i also use a firewall that filters banner ads. all you see is a link on the page "[ad size]". works about 80% of the time.

I've found that since my email is a very simple (only 4 letters) hotmail account, I get a ton of spam from random email programs. Often they will send out a stream to many variations of words and such in order to hit addresses. I've created another simple account (6 letters) that never was used, and it soon began receiving random spam in this fashion as well.

Also, I don't know if anyone else has this, but I have lately been getting messages returned to me from mail servers (email I never sent btw) that is spam when it bounces. I wince at the amount of spam that must be getting through with my name on it. It appears that spammers are using my email as a bogus return address!

I can't wait till people start emailing me with complaints...

This is very common. Spammers use forged addresses, of course, and many times the address happens to be legitimate. I was a victim of it and described my experience in an earlier thread.
