I (again) hesitate to write this because of the long running disagreement regarding cables -
whether or not they affect SQ.
About 3 weeks ago, I bought the Kimber Kable upgrade for my Z7's which I've had pretty
much since they were first released in the US.
However, I received the 3M version. I wanted the 1.2M version.
Nonetheless, I listened to the 3M version for a week or so (Sony
offered a 1 month return window) and heard distinct improvements
from the stock cable. And this was no real surprise, since Sony
itself is promoting the Kimber Kable as an "upgrade over the stock
cable.
Returned the cable via USPS, Sony promptly credited my credit card
with a full refund. That was expected, but nice anyway.
Bought the 1.2M version of the Kimber, and I'm glad I did.
To my ears, there's clearly more impact, definition, and a wider
and deeper soundstage. The treble has less "softness", and the
bass is tighter.
I'm really, really pleased with this purchase, and recommend
it highly to any Z7 owner. (I would just confirm the 1 month
return option.)
