don't know what shocks me most, the µsd slot or the fact that they, at long last, gave up on the mickey's head interface.
so the A will be more an updated E584 than a new A865. that's ok for me. I love the A865 UI(the most clever one in any DAP in my opinion, if only they removed the karaoke stuff that I only use every 3 months to loop a track when I ABx DAPs). but in a pocket there is nothing like real buttons even if browsing can be less fun than on a touch screen.

no noise cancelling is also good news as we avoid contact troubles and weird little noises like in the F886.
so if the hissing is minimal(please please!!!!!) and the battery life close to that of the E584, I'll be sure to get this little fellow.
last improvement for me will be when they decide to get a line out that isn't on the charger's plug, else I'm very glad to see that sony seems to have really taken its fingers out of its butt to do some real walkmans again.

about the WS I hope they solved the channel imbalance so many people experienced with the the old one.

Hmm mm. I don't like the small screen and the big diamond shape of controls.i know it will sound great but it doesn't beat the Z in terms of looks.

I've seen a lot of Japanese folks who claim they only need music playback, they're always asking for  a player as small as the S series but with a better amp, so this is Sony listening to them.

I've also seen people ask (for years!) if the W series can double as bluetooth headset, so Sony finally listened to them too.

it's fun how we all look for different DAPs. I'm willing to go as small and ugly as a sansa clip' screen if it gets me 2 more hours of battery life. I gave up on the f886 because the screen was uselessly big for my needs and killing the battery in real time even at minimum brightness.
about the pad shape, I agree it's not pretty. but I believe it will be better to use in a pocket than the E585's design(or previous ones of the same shape). here you can't mistakenly hit "back" or "option" while switching tracks, and having pointy shapes also separates up and down from next/previous better, while actually keeping the same buttons underneath.

what's funny is that the pic made me think about a cowon dap and scared me. but then I remembered that the software UI would be from sony and not some nightmarish cowon creature.

Great news for me on the WS610: Now with equalizer and sound effects operated via smartphone app.

So I'll leave you guys to discuss the other products I have no interest in... thanks to ascariss for the scoop
