I'd just like to start experimenting with the two options with a little guidance to save me time, if anyone has a real answer :/

Err, this is what I remember, you could:
 
plug it into the same power strip that you use to power your other equipment. Not sure whether it is to be plugged into a socket closest to the strip's power cable or the one furthest.
 
or
 
plug it into a socket using the same power line that has an appliance that could generate electrical noise that "bleeds" back into the line, an example of an appliance being a refrigerator.
