Hi there, so I met a guy at school who said his father has a pair of k1000's, I thought he was joking, but it turns out he is not lying. I had asked him for photos and he provided them to me. He asked how much I would offer, and I told him between 300-500$. He said he'd ask his father, and so far it seems he is willing to let it go for that price.

Can anyone help determine if this looks legitimate? I will ask him for the serial number.

Am I the only one who thinks that this reeks of "kid trying to sell his parents' stuff for fast cash"?  I would ask if you could talk to his father; they are his headphones after all.  Also try to get a listen before buying; it could be that they're broken.

As for whether they're real, the pictures look like all the other pictures of K1000s that I've seen.  They appear to have been recabled.  Not having owned them myself, I can't really give you any more than that.

He made sure to ask his father, the guy is 18 lol, he's not a complete moron. He also knows they have somewhat of a high value. I'm waiting to see if the price is okay for him. Apparently they've been laying around for years. I just see it as an opportunity to get some beautiful headphones at a good price.

Are you kidding me?  You better hide your kids, hide your husband, and hide your wife,  I'd snatch that up like crazy.  That looks like an early s/n by the box.  If you don't keep it I will buy it.

Same here.  If you get it for that price range, it will be the steal of the century.  You better hope that the father doesn't realize that he can get around 4-5 times more of your asking price.

I don't think there's a big market for fake K1000's.

Guys, I will have to go to their place to pick it up anyhow; and in that scenario, I will be dealing with the actual owner. The way I see it, is that the father just wants to get rid of them and he's basically getting most of its initial cost back. So for him, he thinks he may as well just let them go since he hasn't put them to good use.

I'd be extremely happy if I can get them, some things seem to good to be true though; if only.

for that price they're steal nowadays for what they value at. he probably happy your offering the full amount he probably paid for them cause the k1000's when first release sold for about half the value their worth nowadays at retail price. i think they use to retail around 500 or so but akg had a hard time selling them and that's reason for them being discontinued but as soon as they became discontinued everyone wanted them and so after, the value of them sky rocket. they're are one of the most treasured of dynamic headphones and best of AKG. well good luck and congrats on your soon to be new k1000's. i'm totally jealous of you just to let you know. i never end up with deals like that in my lifetime.

Hey man, I'm hoping too! It's no guarantee. Luckily I see the guy every week in class, I'm going to keep harassing him until I buy them o_O

Eh, process is going slow, he's going to send them to a friend here in Montreal and I'll buy them straight off him. Sometime mid January. I just hope his friend doesn't research about it or cash them in... I'm getting quite impatient.

Hopefully I'm not wasting my time
