So the HD 650 is being sold for $350 right now... my current collection includes the Shure SE535, Shure SRH-840, Philips Fidelio X1, and the Sennheiser Momentums. I've always wanted the 650's, but never had the opportunity to demo them. My question is, should I bother though? I mean from what I've gathered it seems very similar to the X1's, with the X1's being more fun. I'm debating it because I've already spent $700 on myself this Christmas.. don't know if I can justify another $350.. :frowning2: I listen to a bit of everything though I find I enjoy a bit of extra bass when possible.

I think your current gear is probably good enough.  The HD650 is a great headphones, but if you already like the X1 I do not think the HD650 is going to provide you with some sort of epiphany.

Different flavours.
I'd try and a demo a pair of HD650's if I can.
I wouldn't bother buying one unless you had a decent amp to go with it though, as you might be disappointed

Thanks for the input guys, Toronto is sorely lacking in audio stores with a good demo selection unfortunately. They're all at least a good 20-30 min drive away and they don't always have a good selection. Luckily I'm sure they'll carry the 650's to demo but again there's the driving. I think I'll hold off unless I can demo them. As for my setup I currently use my ASUS Xonar Essence STX as the DAC, and the Bravo Ocean as an amp. Or if I'm lazy just the headphone port on the STX.
