Should I get a Sony MDR-V6?

I used to own an MDR-V5 way back in the early 90's and really liked it. Never had a V6.

Judging from the HeadRoom graphs, it looks like it has the flattest response of any headphone from the bass through to the upper midrange. Why is a 'phone with such a flat response going for only $89?

Is it worth a shot, for $89?

I got these yesterday. Using them with a Graham Slee NOVO. Very flat response, neutral, no obvious peaks or valleys, confident, dynamic, musical. You basically hear what's on the recording. What everybody wants but nobody will accept because of the price (it does not cost $2000) and because the soundstage does not resemble a baseball stadium. Not thrilled with the pad positioning on the ear. But that's my only minor gripe.

The stock pads fall apart quickly and a lot of people replace them with these (me included):

I don't think you can go wrong with these. These are probably the cheapest pro audio studio monitoring headphones you can buy that will work right out of the box without an amp. You should be able to find them cheaper else where if you shop around.

I hope those pads don't affect the sound as I wouldn't want a thing changed sonically. Are there any other sources for them as they appear to be out of stock with that vendor.

Here's another place to get the Beyer pads:

I can't remember any sound change but the comfort level increased big time.
