Currently I have a HD800 and W5000 paired with maxxed WA6 and HA5000. I'm very happy with both of the headphones and have no complain at all.

Should I get a DX1000 or balanced HD800 route? I heard DX1000 at a meet and the lush mid that got me thinking about getting one.

It's worth listening to the D7000 as well. I have the D7000, and I heard the DX1000 at a meet. Both are great, and a bit different. I liked my Denon a bit better, but not everyone will, that's for sure. I *think* the D7000 can be had for a bit less money as well?

I really want to try it out at home for a week or so to see if I like it or not but the price and availability is holding me back. D7000 is very nice as well, I tried it but think is too much bass for me. I'm not much a basshead, I prefer natural and nice liquid lush mids.

Well since you heard them and found out about the lush mids why not.

I rather take a new signature then getting 2 % out of a signature I already have. Depends if you want variety or one be all system I suppose

I did ordered from Welcome to computeruniverse.net! but it is no longer available and they canceled my order. Knowing how much it cost on the HA version, it is very difficult to get a HP version thru PriceJapan. I guess I can wait until my trip to Japan in late summer to pick one up.

The DX1000 will sound VERY different from either the HD800 or the W5000. So if a different but still excellent sounding pair of cans appeals to you, then by all means get them.

Be warned though, the DX1000 have a pretty healthy amount of bass weight. I find the bass to be exceptionally well defined, and not interfering with the mids, nonetheless, think if it as having kind of the inverse sound signature of the W5000 (which I found to have a very hot treble and not a lot of bass weight).

That is exactly I like to heard, I guess going balanced route can wait. For some reason, not sure it is the HA5000 or not. I did not find W5000 is bass light, it probably have more bass than my HD800.

I would tend to agree with Skylab on the W5000's bass impact. As well, I found that there was more bass impact with the HD800. I'm not a huge fan of these graphs, but this one I tend to correlate with what my ears have heard.

But heck we all hear differently.

I do find HD800 have bass but not over powering, as the same with W5000. Maybe is the open vs closed design or my HD800 is faulted.

Agreed, the HD800's bass is not overpowering. I would consider it bang on neutral. I think your set's just fine. I'm just a little surprised on the W5000 bass being more impactful as I didn't have that experience.

Maybe it was the gear/amp that I listened to it with? FWIW, I think the JVC's would be a great fun complimentary headphone to your collection.

I do love how Diana Krall sounds with JVC during a meet but it is not quiet enough to truly appreciate her sweet lush voice. For the price at computeruniverse.net, I can't go wrong but unfortunately they canceled my order due to lack of stock.

The DX1000 is heared last year sounded mostly great (especially with my electronica), but it had a weird mids coloration sometimes which prevented it from getting on my top tier ranking.

The DX1000 are sufficiently idiosyncratic that making them one's only headphone is a bit risky - some love them, some don't. But when added to a stable of high-end cans, it's a no-brainer IMO, because it provided a unique, enjoyable perspective.
