Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Probably I will do the same. Audiophonics just shipped mine :)
If my ET3 exceeds my expectations I will buy spare parts for it.
I bought a second ET3 as backup. I don't really care about the transport, but the streamer is one of the most musical that rivals some of the best streamers including a dedicated one that was over $4k which I sold in favor of ET3. Use good, clean power and AES or USB output (this requires galvanic isolator and reclocker afterwards to make USB sound close to AES).

Or at least the easy job, like the simple display mode when playing a CD. Cannot believe it is not an easy job for the software team.

My unit finally arrived today. I am not satisfied with its disc reading ability. It struggles with the discs quite a lot.
In 5 try I got 1 read error, 1 slow TOC reading, 1 very long time to start playing the first track and 2 perfect and fast reading.
Here is one example. The disc is brand new: video

I did not have this at all when I first received the player, but definitely noticing slow to read/start the first track on many discs now. No issues at all once it starts playback and I have never noticed any issues initially read the disc when I first put it in, only when hitting play.

It could be a faulty unit. If it persists, perhaps an exchange with the AD is in order.

The ET-3 is still serving me faithfully and well. Save for Roon where I have I2S in from the iFi Neo Stream as NAA, and occasionally the Eversolo DMP-A6 ME, the ET-3 is usually the default choice. Starting with CD playing and then either playing from external HDD or Melco NAS. Or Airplay from my iPhone. :)

Hi guys, I am setting up my system and I have ordered a Shanling ET3, now it's on the way.
I will connect the ET3 with a Eversolo A8 to work as a DAC, I will use the ET3 exclusively as CD Transport having the A8 as streamer.
I read all the thread, very usefull, it is clear to me that USB connection can't do upscaling, on A8 I have only the choice to use the
Optical/Coaxial Audio Input, no I2S input for the A8 unfortunately only a I2S output.
According to A8 specs it supports up to stereo PCM 192KHz 24Bit, Dop64
Using the Optical/Coaxial connection is the way to have an upscaling of my CDs?
Need your suggestion to buy the right cable not wasting money.
Thanks

You will be fine with USB or Coax, depends how good quality usb or coax cable do you have.
Upsampling is a neat feature, but depending on how resolving your system is it will be audible.
I do use ET3 as a standalone CDT without upsampling on some days, then on a few days I upsample to DSD via i2s

Did you try adding a USB CD drive to the A8?

All my gears will arrive tomorrow apart of the ET3.
I will buy a good coax cable to have the chance to upsample up to the A8 specs.
Is DOP64 declared for A8 matching with the DSD64 available on ET3?
I have a Supra USB cable already to test the usb connection and I will try also an usb CD drive.
System should resolve enough, the power ampli is a Marantz MM7025 and the speakers are two SF Sonetto I

If you will be running ET3 just as CD and do all the Hi-Res directly on A8, my recommendation would be following:

ET3 Running Coaxial to A8, SRC set to 192.
