Yes, exactly, that's how SC makes money, so can't blame em. But, I don't think many mainstream consumers have even heard the term "audiophile".

It's also where most of sennheisers revenue comes from.

yeah but Sennheiser also makes good headphones though.

Sennheiser is more than making good headphones. Some of its midrange headphones are very surprisingly good. take the HD 238 and 448 for example, fantastic models in their price point. Step up to the higher-tier ones and you get the HD 600, IE8, and others.
