Odd question you might think, but I'm thinking about building a hifi rack out of rubberwood chopping boards like this one:

I'd be using a complete board for a shelf then one cut width ways to act as sides/supports with spikes used to separate each tier. There will be 3 tiers in all.
Now my problem is that would only give me an inside shelf space of 440mm
while my pre/amp/cd all measure 432mm in length.
I can allow for up to 240mm of headroom for airflow but only 4 mm on each side. would this be alright or am I pushing my luck?
