I don't know if this is news, old news but I can't find anything with a quick seach on this forum or on Google for that matter. I just got off the phone with a rep from up here in Canada (called him to discuss chinese counterfitting of their CX300s, since I have a genuine and fake pair. Look for my upcoming thread on how to differentiate the two if you are interested) and he informed me the new Sennheiser HD 700's should be available in January 2008 in Canada. He mentionned more specifically a date in the 20's, but since I can't exactly remember, I'll stick with just saying Jan. 2008. I don't know if their slatted to be released earlier somewhere in the world. Would appreciate knowing if someone has the info.

Let the speculations begin.

This information might be sensitive, hope that representative doens't get in trouble for telling you that. Actually he/she shouldn't have told you if it was really under wraps or maybe it was just a really bad slipup. Anyway, makes a good discussion thread.

Seriously, shouldn't we ban this kind of threads?
It is better to discuss when HD650 will be sold for $150. :p

My best friend works for sennheiser. January 19th 2008. It has wood in the design.

Will this wood be a closed design aka AudioTechnica or open design aka Grado or simply looks aka Orpheus?

Thanks MTD. Well, the rep was suprised of me asking, asking in return where I had heard of this, and then just looked it up on his computer and told me straight up. What harm can this do? Other than getting people's hopes up! lol
I'm thinking that a little buzz is just good for future sales. Can't wait for them to release some pictures. I due to go up to Pointe-Claire in mid February to chat with the rep about the counterfitting thing. I'll try to pry more info then.

Wood...can't wait! Hoped I'll still have both arms and legs after the purchase. I'd REALLY love to get my hands on pair #1, but I can keep on dreaming I guess...

i think senn is probably going to start leaking like capital hill in an attempt to built up anticipation and excitement over their newest headphone... and head-fi's atmosphere is perfect for this.

Logically, I would have to speculate that if they include wood in the design (maybe just the driver housing) that they would continue to be an open circumaural design like the rest of the HD line.

My friend (mark) who coincidentally works for their product development team tells me they'll be OPEN DESIGN, and have WOOD. Also last time I talked to him he said they haven't "officially" announced it, but its not top secret either. Can't wait. Too bad he doesnt get me deals

I hope they keep the price reasonable. I haven't been able to convince myself to spend more than $300 on a pair of headphones yet.

Doubt it. It will probably MSRP between $500 and $600 when it first comes out.
