Unfortunately, we don't have any new models which is as light as the HDR45. But you may want to consider RS 110 II or RS 120 II as they both come with open headphones. However, availability of these products depends on your location (see below).
 
Sennheiser offer wireless headphone systems operating in the following frequency bands:
 
1) 926 - 928 MHz  (RS 110 II / 120 II ) - for USA
 
2) 863 - 865 MHz (RS 110 II / 120 II ) - for Europe
 
3) 2400 - 2483.5 MHz (RS 160 / 170 / 180 & all BT models) 
 
In Singapore, the 900 MHz band (925 - 935 MHz) is mainly utilized by cellular mobile services. Therefore, you won't be able to purchase these models in Singapore. Nevertheless, if you have already bought either model elsewhere, you may still get it checked or purchase spare parts in our service centre in Singapore.

I have tested the RS180 which was more comfortable on the ears than the RS170.
 
However as it will last me for a few years and almost nightly use I am having trepidation regarding its weight. at 204 grams whereas HDR45 weighs in at 175 grams

Are these HDR45 no more available anywhere and is there an equivalent version whether RF or Digital which is just as light with preferably (1) open dynamic (2) Velvet earcups .
 
Understand someone told me that Singapore Government bans equipment using RF of 900 or  above from use in SIngapore . What 900 value stands for I do not know and would like to know. So are there any Sennheiser Earphones with RF within the 900 indicator that I can buy.
 
As I have said I would like to stick to Sennheiser , Wireless, Light and Comfortable on the ears for night listening over TV not Hifi stereo so sound quality is good to have but not must have.
 
Does Germany use below 900 or over 900 spectrum ?
 
Would be grateful with your enlightening responses to my queries.

As for your last query, you do not need to turn off your source before connecting your transmitter.

It is on page 35 of this manual. But now when I read it again I'm afraid I misunderstood it. It is saying 20cm away from users body, not source. Could that also be a problem when using it with smartphone for listening music, keeping them in pocket?!?

Anyway, the information you've copied below is the recommendation from FCC which we have adopted in our manuals for all our RS products. However, as mentioned, the RS 160 operates on low power and its radiation is much less that FCC's limits. Just ensure that there is a direct line of sight between the transmitter and the headphones for an enjoyable listening experience.

Right now I'm torn between the 160s and 170s. I like the idea of the 160s being more portable, though I'm not sure I'd really take advantage of that too much. I'm more into sound quality, and am wondering if the 170s are a huge step up in sound compared to the 160s? If the difference is negligible, then I'm leaning towards the 160s for portability and price. I've read the surround effect on the 170s is gimmicky and not useful, though there's a concern about the lack of bass on the 160s compared to the 170s.
 
Also - how long is the cable from the base unit that connects to your receiver (or TV, or whatever)?  If I got the 170s, I'd have to place the base unit about 4 feet from my receiver, and it would have to sit directly next to my wireless 2.4 ghz router. There's a concern about interference as well, even though on this thread those concerns have been minimal.

As mentioned previously, both the HDR 160 and HDR 170 produce a similar sound. However, the latter comes with Dynamic Bass and Surround Sound functions.

I've had RS160 for over a year and I much enjoy them. Impeccable sound quality, comfortable etc. So when I needed another pair for the office I bought RS170 since RS160 weren't available. Just tried them and I too get the quiet hizz/buzz/static hum from the right earphone. I tried with different sources, attenuator switch, but the same thing happens with all of them. It doesn't bother that much if there is music going on, but I can hear it just fine during the quiet times. Not acceptable for the price, IMHO.
 
The strange thing is that (I just tried this) my RS160 is totally silent with same source. Then I tried to pair the RS170 headphones with RS160 transmitter. The buzz is back. So it's the headphones and not the transmitter. Need to send this back, which is a shame since the transmitter/charging station seemed really handy for my use.

Has anyone compared the RS160 line, HD428 line and PX-80 line with the HD 600, 650, 800, etc?

I was chatting with some on the Grado thread and Grado's seem to have the same sound as you move up the chain, just more of it and better detail, bass and staging.

What is the signature, or not, of the various Sennheiser lines?

Quick question on the RS170 vs the RS180. I would prefer the sound quality of the open-backed RS180, and have no worry about sound leaking out, but am worried about sound leaking in. I work in a room that adjoins a living room. If someone is watching the tv at a low-medium volume, that TV is 2m away and facing away from my direction, am I going to be able to hear it through the 180s while I have music playing at medium volume? If so, how badly?
 
How much is muted out by the headphones themselves? If they aren't on, can I hear the outside world as if I wasn't wearing them? Or do they provide some level of protection?
 
Just trying to judge if I can get by with the 180s in the odd times someone else wants to use the same room.

1. The RS 170 comes with a closed pair of headphones while the RS 180 comes with an open pair. Therefore, the sound qualities are different. The former comes with Dynamic Bass and Surround Sound listening modes while the latter is equipped with balance and automatic level controls. In my opinion, if you'd like a set for movies, the RS 170 would be suitable while the RS 180 is really more for audio enjoyment.
 
2. With TX 170 + HDR 180, you'll get to enjoy the Dynamic Bass and Surround Sound modes as well as the open sound quality of HDR 180. Bear in mind that you won't be able to utilize the balance and automatic level controls.
 
3 & 4. The RS 170/ RS 180 and the wired HD 558 are very different products. They come with different transducers and designs. At the end of the day, it really depends on your personal preference and usage - if you're going for a wireless listening experience, I think you'd like either one of the wireless models. Acoustically, I'd consider the HD 5XX models to be a step-up and I personally use the HD 558 when watching movies at home!

Hey guys.. quick question.. what kind of changes would happen to the rs 170 if I put the velour ear pads of the rs 180 (as they are compatible).. would it be only in comfort, or would the sound change too? (for better or worse?).

I just discovered this discussion while researching wireless headphones.  I need them for use in a small recording studio to wear while recording guitar or vocals into a microphone while listening to the previously recorded instruments through the headphones.  For this I need closed headphones to minimize leakage that the mic could pic up.  So the RS160 or 170 are possibilities.
 
One big question though.  In the studio there will often be periods of no sound being transmitted to the headphones.  (Record for a few minutes, stop recording to do some adjustments on the mixer or in the PC software, then record again, etc).  I have read that many of the wireless headphones turn off when there is no sound being transmitted for a given time period (to reduce battery usage). Then you have to re-pair them to use them again.  This would not work in my situation since I would need to do this many times an hour.
 
Do the RS160 and 170 do this?

Regarding my question above about use during recording.  I just found this on the Sennheiser US website for both the 160 and 170:

What is the reason they are not recommended for this application?

I'm pretty sure its because they have a small delay. Not noticeable when for lip-synching with a movie, but probably not ideal in a recording environment. I'm pretty sure the actual delay time is listed somewhere earlier in the thread, 25ms rings a bell but I could well be wrong.
