Sennheiser IE900 Review, Measurements, & Harman Target Talk

I know it doesn’t matter now as I returned the counterfeit IE900 back and got a full refund but I’m not impressed with Sennheiser’s customer service. I contacted them over 2 weeks ago enquiring about the serial number and asking if they were counterfeit and I still haven’t received a reply back and that was over 2 weeks ago. Anyway, it’s just as well I didn’t wait for a reply and returned them when I did. Not impressed. :frowning2:

Maybe you have one of the first IE900 units made in Germany, on which they have been based to make the fake version (hence the golden case and different box).

Anyway, the important thing is that the earpieces are original, in which case you can see the clear differences with these photos.
Just claim mmcx loose, demand a rma warranty exchange.

100% counterfeit.

I bought a counterfeit IE900 from AliExpress for my sister and was able to compare them a few months ago, the most obvious differences are the machining (the original is clearly CNC'd while the fake is clearly a mold), as well as details in the "IE900" logo on the left side (the original is also machined and embossed, while the fake appears black painted like yours).

I think @rggz 's post illustrates well the main features of the original IE900, but here are some additional photos comparing one to the other.

Counterfeit left, original right in all photos except in the last one, where I put the original accidentally on the left and the fake on the right:

The IE900 IEMs I bought and returned back to CEX for a full refund are identical to the counterfeit IE900 IEMs on tne left photos you provided. Even down to the case, box and accessories it’s identical. Only difference is the certificate of authenticity was signed with a serial where on the certificate on your photos they aren’t signed and have no serial.

Probably somebody, perhaps the person who offloaded it it CEX, for maximum fakery, wrote a serial number on there and put a squiggle in the signature bit. :)

I’m not sure if they are discon, but both ie600 and 900 are having Large discounts promotion at the moment where I’m at. Approx 1.1k USD new for IE900.

Wondering if this would be a good buy. I had the ie600 but it was unfortunately lost in a house move :/ luckily my z1r is safe.

the problem is, I put the inear in for a few hours, let's say 2-3 hours and something starts to bite my right ear, half an hour goes by, then this 2-3 second stabbing pain appears every 15 minutes. and I literally have to take it out of my ear because it makes me gag. yesterday my left ear started to burn. I use spinfit w1, it is made of medical rubber of good quality. so it's unlikely that I'm using poor quality, that's why it's irritating. It is the same with small and medium fitting, large does not fit. I simply can't stand it after a while... I have no idea what the solution is, if there is one at all. has it ever happened to you that any inear was so uncomfortable in your ears that you would have preferred to pull it out of its place? and did any of you have such a few seconds of penetrating pain? I have a tip, maybe my auditory bone or nerves are weak and this physical pain is caused by continuous hours of pressure. The only problem is that it does the same with the smallest and medium-sized joints.

Could I ask IE900 owners a few questions? I’m looking to replace my IE600 which was lost. It is basically my mobile IEM, the IER-Z1R is too precious for me to take out and it requires a good amp the drive, the Ie600 has a similar tuning to the z1r and is super easy to drive via an iPhone.

Is the IE900:
1. Similarly easy to drive on an iPhone as an IE600?
2. Is the low end bass more refined than the ie600 and also the IE800 (IE800 bass has a lot of gravity but low detail)?
3. Soundstage broader than the ie600?

The IE600 is also around 25% off retail but I don’t mind trying for the IE900 is it has a standout feature sound wise. Thanks!

Yea so maybe I can help as I had a ie600 last month and now have an ie900. I liked the ie600 in store but after having it at home for a bit I ended up selling it pretty fast.

Same volume off an iPhone SE, it's pretty crazy the sound you get off an iPhone dongle with the ie900. Low end bass of the ie900 is definitely more refined. It punches harder and is faster than the ie600. The ie600 has more bass presence and it's a bit muddy, I'd take the i900 bass over the ie600 any day. The soundstage is on the smaller end for both, but the imaging and stage is slightly less inside your head in the ie900.

This week I was demoing the Z1R vs the ie900 in store and left with the ir900. Z1R was pretty awesome though.

Thanks for the info. The z1r is one of those inspired designs that won’t coke around again in a while. So far the only iem that faithfully reproduces a live orchestra setting.

But z1r is a handful to drive well and the fit is not for everyone. The ie600 is by far the most comfy iem I have owned so I kinda miss it. Maybe I’ll give the ie900 a go it sounds easy to drive and enjoyable. :)
