Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

I'm curious, has anyone ever heard of a pair of HD800's that died? (reached it's lifespan)

Just wondering how long a pair of these are expected to last. I've had mine for two years with quite a bit of use. They're as good as when i bought them.

My HD800 #666 was delivered in early 2009.
Has used it with portable equipment on planes, boats and through more amps that broke over the years.
Did have to change the pads twice.

I was only referring to driver failure, when the headphones simply stop working. The pads will obviously have seen better times when used for several years.

Sounds good though. Thanks for the input.

Dynamic drivers should last a long time, never had one fail in 40 years of owning headphones.

On the other hand, I have experienced driver failures with both electrostatic dynamic ( K-340) and orthodynamic ( HP-1000).

My HD-800 is over five years old (#078XX)  with no problems what so ever.

There are people on the other thread that have had theirs since release. That's a long time in my eyes.

They're made in Germany mate...

Got this new amplifier from Cayin IHA6. Fantastic with HD800S! Thats after testing a whole lot of them that cost more at my retailer.

Yup. My retailer just got it on Monday. I bought their only set. Balanced amp with plenty of power and really maximizes the HD800S soundstage and gives it energy especially for vocals.

Hmm. The shop had a WA5 next to it. The Cayin felt better then the WA5. WA22 is tubbier and I sold it away sometime ago. But memories tell me that its definitely worst off since WA22 is just different from my CDM while this is better.

Also I dont think its limited. Just really new and rare due to its brand

At where I am, the Cayin is like 2/5 the price of the Taurus. It works magic with the HD800S. Especially on the soundstage and energy factor.

A pity Cayin distribution is so messed up here in the U.S.   I think there's one guy who doesn't do much and then a couple of gray market guys.

BTW, just ordered my HD800S from Chad Stelly at Acoustic Sounds - my favorite dealer.

I'll be putting up my HD800's when they get here.   Let me know if you're interested.
