chesebert, can you show a picture of your TP mod? I want to know exactly where to place it on the headphone? Thanks.
You don't need to EQ bass (amp and dac synergy solves that). You may need EQ for the treble. However, instead of using electronic EQ which may not be desirable, you can simply add TP in front of the driver. Add a single ply at a time until you arrive at your desired FR. TP will basicly act as front damping with a low Q cut of 5-7khz, which just so happens to coincide with the slight tilt in that area based on the raw response. You can obviously use other front damping materials, but you need to first characerize the effects of the material.

What are top suggestions for high current headphone amps?

Violectric V222, or V202 if you on a budget, best combination/synergy I've ever had with the HD800S, it reminds me of back in the day when everyone was pairing the original HD800 with Matrix M-Stage HPA1, match made in heaven, although the HPA1 was a lot cheaper!

I just bought the Woo Audio WA22, which is an absolutely phenomenal match for the HD800S. I still use a touch of EQ on my RME ADI-2 DAC, but sometimes I just turn the EQ off, depending on the recording. This tube amp really does shines with this headphone.

When listening to jazz, I run mine through a Little Dot mk IV, using a mojo 2 as a pre-amp.

Sounds.....lush.

Howdy all,

Reporting to the thread. 🫡

I don't have any reservations on the stock tuning of the HD800S, but in an (rare) event of needing to EQ, all I need is a single filter:

When I want to hear bass, I just go ahead and grab an IEM. :sunglasses:

Cheers. :metal:

That's a hd800, not hd800s?

Have you no shame?

Add a ply or two of TP and you don’t need EQ anymore.

A good tube amp solves all my FR problems.

So I just got an HD800s, and I feel like my head might not be wide enough for the headphone. It feels like it doesn't get a great seal on the sides of my head.. and if I look down toward my lap, the headphone begins to slide off my head.

Would some replacement pads from ZMF give me a little more clamping force?

Don't worry about the gaps, lots of us get them and they don't seem to alter the sound at all. You don't need a good seal with open back headphones. After all, they are "open"
