Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Those of you with revealing DACs and looking for an amp to go between, do give the Airist Heron 5 a listen. I'm probably not the first to suggest it. It's a gorgeous pairing. All the details layered over a wide and deep soundstage. Notes with lots of body and weight. And just the right amount of air and sparkle. Beautiful.

Recently got the LCD 2C. Very nice complement to 800S. I ve got a few hours of casual listen on lcd2c. Comparing the 2

800S: Wide, open, airy sound. It is clear Sennheiser strives for neutrality and accuracy with these.

LCD2C: Rich, thick and focused sound. I feel they compete with 800S in detail. Audeze was targetting musicality and fun above accuracy I feel.
I am tempted too by LCD2C as a complement for HD800S but this one after upgrading to a tube amp.You bought them new?

The way I was thinking is: Audeze LCD series is a great complement to 800S and what better deal than LCD2C. Yep got them new.

Good day everyone!
I just purchased an HD 800S and it compliments both my Fostex TH-900 and Audeze LCD-2 Rev. 2.2 nicely!

However, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a amp/dac combo that could be an upgrade from what I have (see signature)?
I'm looking to keep this below $1000 if possible.
Thanks

That's right. They are also pre-amp.

I’m more into grooves in electronic but hd800S tics most of my boxes in my desktop rig, bass is just fine but folks overemphasize the bass for this genre, preferences aside, it’s really about the mids. That’s why hd800S works well in these genres.

bought this on cd while back, sounds stunning on my HD800S..

It is my reference disk when I want to try some new headphones and their subbass. Nicely recorded too.

Thanks for the post on "Convergence", best new music (to me), for quite a while. Her voice reminds me a lot of Holly Cole!
