what cable are you guys using for your s2? stock or something different? thinking about getting a balanced cable soon since i could not find the stock cable anymore.
I'm using the Drop balanced 2.5mm cable for HD6-series, with their 2.5mm-to-XLR adapter. Works great, is long enough to be desktop convenient and short enough not to drag on the floor. Since 2.5mm has fallen out of favor, Amazon also carries a brand of aftermarket cables from KK that I think provide excellent value for the HD6-series.

For a balanced 4 pin XLR, originally used this very affordable one from Amazon, feels like Sennheiser's own but too short for my application, works fine though.

Currently for balanced I'm using an original Sennheiser CH800 but modified the the headphone plugs to accommodate the 600 series.
Well if you want to get get creative...I converted one of my extra CH800 balanced cables for use with my HD600S2.....

I have the amazon special shown above. I can attest that it's a great cable. To be honest, not much, if any, noticeable sonic difference. Just good quality, fits my use case, and it doesn't "mess-up" the sound signature. I recommend it.

Just wanted to chime in here before we get in trouble again for bringing up the NDH30 in the 660S2 thread. I was in Japan last week and had the opportunity to demo the NDH30 at the venerable e-earphones store. They had it paired with a HDV820. While not the ideal conditions, I am a believer now...the NDH 30 gives a different presentation than the HD6xx / 660 S2. I preferred the bass over my 660S2s. Detail was a step up from 660S2 but not harsh in anyways. I only had about 20 minutes with it but I would definitely be on the look out for a pair on the secondary market.

Having said that, I am glad to be home and enjoying the 660S2s on my setup with a glass of beer in hand on a Friday afternoon.

Happy weekend to all here on head-fi!
How would you say the midrange is with the NDH30 vs the 660S2?

That's a tough one, they're quite different IMO. The S2 has a warmer, thicker midrange with an elevated mid bass like the HD650. But unlike the 650, the S2's mids are not as forward. They sound farther back to me and just a bit compressed (in direct comparison, not in general). The 30's mids are more forward, more neutral, and clearer. Despite being more neutral, they're not boring. For vocals I'd take the 30 more often that the S2. The S2 is more engaging for drums and bass instruments. Overall if I had to pick one outright over the other just for the midrange, i'd go with the 30 for it's added presence/forwardness and clarity. I love the S2's added heft and warmth, but at times vocals sound just a bit distant and it bugs me. Fleetwood Mac is a great band I just do not like on the S2 compared to the 30. Stevie Nicks' velvety smooth and sensual voice comes through almost erotically on the 30, but on the S2 it sounds somewhat constricted and distant. Again, I don't think the S2's mids are recessed in general. But in direct comparison they just don't fare as well. But if you love visceral drumming and percussion, the S2 excels with speed, power and weight. When listening to Metallica's Death Magnetic, I prefer it on the S2 to the 30. Reason being that album has really dynamic and emotive drumming by Lars, and they mixed the vocals pretty forward, which actually makes them sound just right on the less forward S2. And those powerful drums on the S2 are pure energy. That album really resonates on the S2 like Fleetwood does on the 30. So you'd have to think on what's most important in a midrange to you. Percussive energy and drive or emotive vocals? Hope my drivel helps.

Finally home alone for the bank holiday weekend where I managed to gather my two 660 and elex for a brief comparison. I have also the new version of 600 and 6xx but not here there are on the other side of this continent. I have many different cables but cannot compare all different combinations and I do not want to.

The 600 650 6XX is a different philosophy, generation, and driver maybe a different headphone I get it and I still love them all. The 660s1 and 2 is a different class of headphones and I get it. I love them also. The elex is a different animal come from another universe. I like it also very much and i am amazed.

Is meze Neo 99. I have also meze classics 99, I just did not bother to take them out of the box foe the picture I am thinking actually to sell them. Although the classics much better than the Neo (wood LOL) I never use them because I do not want to scratch the wood. They are so beautiful headphones but I am in love with my sens. I also have a secret passionate and destructive relationship with the elex...:)

I have also 4xx did not put them in the picture.

I believe the competition is between 660s2 and elex but I like my 660s and 58x too so I will keep them all making my wife angry.
