If i were to upgrade headphones which would be the best pick out of the Sennheiser hd 650 and Ultrasone pro 900. also if you guys can find other headphones that beat these that are closed headphones at the 300-400$ range let me know.
also if one is just slightly better than the other id be pleased to be told that cause id rather spend 300 vs 400 if lets say the pro 900 is just slightly better.

The HD650 is not closed.
I've compared some Ultras (780 and ED9) with my HD650 and I found out that both of the Ultras sound faster and brighter than the HD650. The bass is super fast while that of the HD650 is really slow. If you love a thick, layered, smooth but kinda slow sound, you'll love the HD650. Or else, go with the Ultra.

I'd take the HD650 over an Edition 9. It's not slow nor thick at all, driven by a decent amp & source. Try it out of any Gilmore/Headamp, a Zana Deux, a working Singlepower Supra/SDS, maybe even a good PPA build - clean, near-reference quality sound (depending on source somewhat). Sounds very good from a Pico or Rudistor RP7.1 too. Sounds quite good from a RKV Mk II but yeah a bit thick and over-smoothed due to that amp. Sounds quite good from an sr71/HR2 but just a tad more grainy than usual. Has a much more natural tone than the Ed 9 IMO. But yeah, it's not closed.

Fair enough. I know what you have and heard.
It's the most ridiculous thing to hear the 650 is over-bassy.

Really depends what you're driving them with or plan to upgrade in the future. Underpowered the HD650/600 can sound worse than the HD595, 750 or 900. Properly powered (and no other considerations like isolation) the majority would take the upper Senns. I'm not sure you'd find the HD595 a significant upgrade from your ATs though.

Ridiculous? Maybe, but nowhere near as ridiculous as claims that the Edition 9 is over-bassy. It has a very strong bass but the speed of the bass is nothing but incredible. The Edition 9's bass is very well controlled, at least more so than the HD650.

Anyway, why is the Edition 9 being brought into this discussion when it's more than twice the price of a HD650? Can someone who has heard the Pro 900 comment on them? I am interested in a comparision between the Pro 900 and the HD650.

I'm assuming they brought up the E9 because the Pro 900 and E9 are commonly compared, and I know that Kees is one person that prefers the Pro 900, atleast after he modded them.

I can't compare with the HD650 because I haven't heard them, but the Pro 900 sound to me something like how the E9s are described: very quick, detailed bass that might be a bit too much for some. Despite the great bass quantity, it doesn't overshadow the mids or highs. Some describe the highs as metallic or plasticy, I don't find this at all and think they're clear and well represented, and don't seem rolled off. The mids are difficult to describe, I would just say they just "fit in" with the rest of the music, and that their presentation (forward vs laid back) depends on the music. I find they have a nice and spacious soundstage, even compared to my ATH-A900 I find the soundstage to be much wider, and with excellent instrument separation.
