Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I have the HD600 as well as the DT880 & ATH-AD900. They are different but and I think you will find the HD600 very easy to listen to and enjoyable. The AD900's are masters of detail and do sound superb with classical. The DT880 is my go to for most rock and metal but the HD600 is pretty much great with everything I throw at it. It's not super recording dependent and I find it more forgiving than the other two. I have a large head and the HD600 fits me well and is comfortable. Clamp is slightly higher than the DT880 but still very comfy.
I use the HD600 mainly with my Keces HA-171 which is a burly SS amp, I hear no "veil" and they have a smooth classic sound that you could listen to all day. I also run them from my LD MKIII with Voshkod driver tubes to give them a little "slap in the a**" and they sound equally fantastic. I had two other Senn. hp's and didn't enjoy them but the HD600 is a keeper!

It's said DT880 is good at classical. Is it true? How about it for large work symphony?

I was going to compare the sound of HD600 with an IEM this morning. Then I put on my HD600, started listening......I couldn't take it off to listen to that IEM lol.....Am I the only one who's having this situation???

Don't know about your IEMs, but I have a 3-year-old M50 that I still use as my outdoors headphone and with the EQ dialed in, it's a worthy complement to the HD600. I'm still waiting for a closed headphone without any peaks and dips in the treble. I wonder if that's even possible in a closed design.

I only wish, for aesthetics, that they were just a plain color...

I know. It seems tacky for such a fine piece of equipment. The sound you get from the HD600 contrasts with the gaudy painted plastic frame.

As do I. Not for that reason; it just works out that way.

Plastic is only sexy like a cheep hooker is sexy when you're terribly desperate. It can NEVER be elegant. Sorry, them the laws of the universe. :)

Now, B&W P5/7... those are elegant.

I prefer listening to music in a dark room, too, but I honestly consider the HD 600 to be one of the sexiests looking headphones ever built - seems like only few people share the same opinion.

I like how they look! Classic. Still what I envision whenever I think of a full open headphone. I actually prefer the look of the HD600 over the HD650. But yes, it appears we are vastly outnumbered buddy.
