Hi!

I've been reading up quite a lot of threads about these 2 headphones on this forum (which were helpfull) but I just have a few questions left to clear everything up. I can't decide between the 2 of them.

I'll be using them outside, in town, on the train, to and from school, at school for 90% of the time. I listen mostly to R&B, trance & hardstyle.

From what I've read it seems that the 238's are much less isolated (so on loud volume I'd be pissing ppl off) yet the 228's are said to have to much "boom" effect, is this the case? Then again, the 238's are said to have a clearer sound and the 228's darker (what does this mean, darker?). Which one would fit my needs the most?

Now I'm thinking about the PX 200-II. The portability system looks great and I can only find good reviews on it. (f.ex. on headphone.com)

What would you guys recommend for my needs?

Thanks so much in advance for any helpfull responses!

flip me, $89 for a pair of PX200-II's. I'd get a pair of Grado SR60's or a pair of Denon AH-D1001. both are acceptable portable options and are far better than the 200's.

Hi Astug,

The HD 238 are open headphones while the HD 228 and PX 200-II are closed headphones.

In terms of portability, PX 200-II wins hands down - they're foldable and come with a carrying case.
If you're looking for headphones for use outside, I'd suggest either PX 200-II or HD 228.
Acoustic-wise, IMO, HD 238 is the best of the three models due to its clearer, detailed sound.

I had a pair of 228 and they wasn't too boomy IMHO. The only complaint I had is that they weren't as portable as my old PMX-100 and that isolation was not enough for the Metro (Madrid's underground/tubes).

The 238 is definitely more airy and detailed than the 228, I tested them, but isolation is nearly zero (similar to my HD201). The 228 was, for me, better than PX 200-II sound wise (and confort-wise) but less portable. In any case, test both if you can.

I just looked in to the Denon AH-D1001, they look great and have also gotten great reviews but they are 150 euro, whilst the HD228/238 & PX200-II are around 70-90 euro here.

Are the Denon's worth getting over the HD228/238 & PX200-II for 50 euro more?

Thanks for the responses guys. :)

If you're looking at the D1001, I'd also recommend checking out the Creative Aurvana Live!  The two headphones share the same drivers but the Creatives can usually be found for less money.  This should especially true in the EU and the UK, where Denon charges an arm and a leg for even their entry-level canalphones.

I can only attest to 238 and pmx100.....238 are a quality sound can but can't vouch for leakage because I always wear them while I am listening to them!

Are you referring to the PX200 or the PX200-II? They sound quite different. I prefer the PX200-II to both the old PX200 and the HD238 by a margin. Very clear and controlled sound, more so than the HD238.
