Hello,

since i got my DT880 around a year ago im constantly trying to improve the EQ to get closer to what my speaker setups delivers,
i was actually kinda dissapointed as i first tried them, yes the DT880 were better than my 30€ Headphones i had before but the headphone expierence was just lacking overall compared to speakers (and i agree with most, the stock DT880 sound very bright/sibilant)

And i think im on the right track to improve the headphone expierence i have with the right EQ/DSP

Currently this is my setup, but i just overhauled it and its still WIP, so i may tweak it further

its based on this measurement from oratory1990 : https://www.dropbox.com/s/ek8baed3t6fy6rd/Beyerdynamic DT880 Black Edition.pdf?dl=0

Base ((mostly) Oratory1990 Preset):

105 Hz, Q 0.70, -5.50 db, High Shelf ----- I switched from +5,50db Low Shelf to -5,50db High Shelf (so no preamp is needed)
130 Hz, Q 0.26, -7.30 db, Peaking
900 Hz, Q 0.70, +0.50 db, Peaking
1000 Hz, Q 1.40, -1.00 db, Peaking
3500 Hz, Q 2.50, -4.80 db, Peaking
4500 Hz, Q 1.40, +2.00 db, Peaking
5300 Hz, Q 7.00, -2.60 db, Peaking
5800 Hz, Q 4.00, -9.00 db, Peaking
8200 Hz, Q 3.00, -6.00 db, Peaking
10000 Hz, Q 0.70, -3,00 db, High Shelf

Corrections of the Oratory1990 Preset (to get closer to a "perfect" harman curve):

10 Hz, Q 0.70, ............. , High Pass ----- Subsonic Filter, to filter out inaudible (specially with headphones) frequencys and take "load" of the driver, sounds better imo
85 Hz, Q 2.00, +1.00 db, Peaking
230 Hz, Q 1.00, -1.00 db, Peaking
1300 Hz, Q 2.00, +0.50 db, Peaking
4500 Hz, Q 2.00, +1.50 db, Peaking
9500 Hz, Q 2.00, +1.50 db, Peaking
13000 Hz, Q 0.90, -2,00 db, High Shelf
18000 Hz, Q 0.70, -10,00 db, High Shelf --- While many say over 10Khz doesnt matter on headphones i dont see a reason not to reduce them if they are too much, specially since i hear a audible improvement (those high shelf filters will just get closer to a perfect harman curve, sibilance is greatly reduced imo)

Preference setting i still play around with to reduce the overall bump in the treble:
4000 Hz, Q 0.60, -2.00 db, High Shelf

I also played with crossfeed and this is the setting i use right now i think this is the closest to speakers i tried so far:
700Hz, 6.00db Cmoy

Also i switched recently to Linux and if anyone is using "EasyEffects", make sure to try out the "SPM Mode" of the Equalizer Plugin and "APO (DR) Mode" for the single EQ Bands
with these settings and switching from windows + equalizerapo to fedora + pipewire + easyeffects i got a kinda great SQ leap recently

I think overall this are the closest settings to speakers i got so far, which also made me create this thread now :)
Feel free to try the settings out :)
Also kinda interested in what expierences you had guys with messing around the EQ

I just had another of those in last week. Diyaudioheaven did a big review on those with lots of measurements with pads and an inline filter he constructed for it. I did some pad rolling and the dt770 silver pads did help like he mentions.
I also tried removing the felt ring and using a circle of 2 plies of toilet paper which helped the bass be less muddy while keeping the treble peak from going too high.
